Research shows that LGBTQ+ adolescents are up to 3.8 times more likely to experience childhood sexual abuse than their heterosexual peers, according to analysis of 37 school-based studies. Awareness of that reality matters.
When communities understand who is most at risk, schools can build safer environments, care providers can better support survivors, and young people are more likely to get help that actually works for them.
In the work to end child sexual abuse, awareness is where prevention starts. Learn more about our work at changetheconversation.org.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. Only 41.6% of men with any mental illness receive treatment, compared to 56.9% of women. For male survivors of childhood sexual abuse, the barriers to seeking care are often compounded.
Our Counseling Assistance Program exists to help make quality care more accessible by removing financial barriers. Learn more about how it works at https://changetheconversation.org/what-we-do/counseling-assistance-program/

We are excited to share our Summer 2026 Training Series! Plus, two more updates:

1️⃣ Following our inaugural conference, Collective Conversations: Setting Hope in Motion, we want to keep the conversations going! Starting with our Summer Series, we will be featuring speakers from the conference. Our first speaker, Dr. Pamela Atueyi, PsyD, LCPC, LCADC, will present Steady in the Storm: Cultivating Emotional Regulation When Work Feels Overwhelming on Monday, July 13. We look forward to featuring additional speakers throughout the Fall, Winter and Spring.

2️⃣We are excited to share that we have partnered with Harford Counseling to provide Continuing Education Credits to licensed Social Workers outside of Maryland, as of July 1, 2026. Harford Counseling, (Provider number: 2705), is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. We will continue to partner with Pro Bono Counseling to provide Continuing Education Credits to licensed Maryland Social Workers.

Language shapes culture. Culture shapes safety. That's why we created the Words Matter language guide — and it's free to download, share, and use in your organization, school, or practice. This guide offers practical, grounded guidance for speaking about child sexual abuse in ways that support survivors, educate communities, and reduce stigma.
💻 Download at https://changetheconversation.org/words-matter — and share it with someone who could use it.

💙 A heartfelt thank you to Priscila and Keshia at Be Bella by Priscila and Aura Salon Frederick for turning their chairs into a force for change this past April. Through their fundraiser at Sola Salons at Westview, they raised $500 for Change the Conversation during !
Every dollar they raised is supporting prevention education in our schools, counseling for survivors in our community, and conversations that make a real difference.
We are so grateful for this community. 🙏

Collective Conversations: Setting Hope in Motion wrapped up this week at The Center Club in Baltimore, and we're so grateful to everyone who was part of it!

Thank you to our keynote speakers, Erin Merryn and Dr. Wendy Ellis, for bringing depth and expertise to the conversation. Thank you to every attendee who asked a thoughtful question, gave honest feedback on what works, and contributed to a true sense of collaboration. To all our speakers, you've ignited powerful conversations and calls to action focused on preventing harm and promoting healing from child abuse; thank you!
A special shoutout to our co-host, Springboard Community Services — we're grateful for your partnership in building a stronger, more connected community that's ready to have difficult conversations. And none of the remarkable two days we spent together would have been possible without the people behind the scenes and at the table: our sponsors, exhibitors, and volunteers who gave their time, resources, and energy to make this conference meaningful.

The conversations continue.

It was so nice to see so many of our partners at the Collective Conversations conference!
