With the initial climb over Troxell Gap exceeding a 13% grade for a short stretch, this gravel ride is not for the climbing-averse. The Chessie Nature Trail is a seven-mile, year-round public access walking trail between Lexington and Buena Vista, owned by Virginia Military Institute. The Trail easily breaks up for shorter hikes, with multiple entrances along the way. Its level path, shady stretches and lovely scenery make it an ideal outing for families.
