Steps To Destiny proudly celebrated its First Annual Purple Ball Gala Fundraiser, an unforgettable evening dedicated to honoring life, resilience, faith, hope, and the strength of those who continue to thrive through their journeys.
The evening brought together supporters, sponsors, community members, families, and Thrivers for a memorable celebration filled with music, fellowship, laughter, inspiration, and love. Steps To Destiny extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who attended, sponsored, volunteered, donated, and supported the organization in any way. Your generosity and presence contributed to the tremendous success of this inaugural event.
The evening began with a Meet & Greet, providing guests with an opportunity to connect, take photographs, enjoy refreshments, and participate in the silent auction. DJ Lykes and the CDD Live Band established an inviting and celebratory atmosphere for the evening. Guests also enjoyed appetizers and beverages prepared by the South Iredell High School Black History Club, whose participation added a meaningful community element to the event.
The Carolina Dogwood Festival Queens graciously escorted guests to their seats as the formal program began. Emcee Lakisha Spears McNair welcomed attendees and set the tone for an evening of celebration and inspiration. Ms. Sara Jones, President of Steps To Destiny, then offered a warm welcome to guests and expressed appreciation for the continued support of the organization’s mission.
Rev. Joan Miller, a Thriver, opened the evening in prayer and blessed the meal. Guests were subsequently served a delicious soul food dinner catered byTen Ten Restaurant.
One of the most meaningful portions of the evening was the Destiny Sisters Empowerment Moment. This segment provided an opportunity for Thrivers to share their personal journeys, experiences, challenges, and triumphs while encouraging others who may be walking similar paths.
Jessica M. Hairston, an RA Thriver, opened the testimonial portion with a powerful account of her journey before closing with a heartfelt performance of “Thank You Lord for All You’ve Done for Me.” Her testimony and song created a deeply moving moment of reflection and gratitude throughout the room.
Jessica was followed by Lisa Sharpe from Statesville, NC, Carone Burnet from UK, Tasha Addison-Adams from Charlotte, NC, and Latasha Fitzgerald from Danville, VA, each contributing their own experiences and words of encouragement. Jewell Swann Bellamy concluded the empowerment segment with a beautiful rendition of “The Goodness of God,” bringing the testimonies together in a powerful expression of faith and gratitude.
As the evening drew to a close, Steps To Destiny’s Visionary, Founder, and CEO Myrah Lykes expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone who helped make the inaugural gala possible. She shared the encouraging words of Jeremiah 29:11:
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
She further encouraged the Thrivers and all those in attendance with a message that captured the spirit of the evening:
“There’s so much more to your story, so whatever you do, don’t stop. Keep going.”
The evening concluded with music from DJ Lykes, as guests continued to celebrate life, fellowship, perseverance, and the promise of what lies ahead.
The First Annual Purple Ball Gala was more than a fundraiser and formal celebration, it was a testament to the power of community, the importance of sharing stories, and the strength found in faith and perseverance.
