Altrusa Statesboro

What a busy week for Statesboro Altrusa!

We kicked things off with a wonderful visit from guest speaker Stephen Pennington of East Georgia Hospital, welcomed District Three Governor Mantha Young for a club visit, and rolled up our sleeves to volunteer for a project supporting the upcoming Tasting Statesboro event!
We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, serve, and make a difference in our community!

Christy has dedicated more than 17 years to higher education and student success, including 12 years at Georgia Southern University before joining Ogeechee Tech in 2019. A graduate of Leadership Bulloch and a Statesboro Herald “20 Under 40” honoree, Christy has also been actively involved in organizations and initiatives supporting education, workforce development, and our local community.

We’re looking forward to hearing from Christy and learning more about the incredible work happening at Ogeechee Tech and the role education plays in strengthening our community. 💙📚

Guests are always welcome at Altrusa!

Whether you’re interested in learning more about Altrusa, meeting other service-minded women in our community, or simply want to hear from our guest speaker, we would love to have you join us.

📚501 BOOKS. ONE BIG IMPACT!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our Statesboro community, the 2026 Books-A-Million Book Drive collected 501 books for Statesboro Altrusa’s Ruth MacKinnon Literacy Project!
We are so grateful to everyone who donated and helped make this drive a success. A special thank you to Books-A-Million and their dedicated staff for their continued partnership and support year after year.
Together, we’re putting books in the hands of children and inspiring a lifelong love of reading-one book at a time!

For more than 30 years, Statesboro Altrusa has been making a difference in the lives of children at Safe Haven/Citizens Against Violence. ❤️

Since 1995, our members have proudly provided snacks for the children residing at Safe Haven—a simple act of kindness that has become a cherished tradition.

We are grateful for the opportunity to continue supporting the children in our community and making a difference, one snack at a time. 💙📚

📚 Help Us Reach Our Book Drive Goal! 📚

We’re officially over halfway to our goal for our book drive with Books-A-Million! 🎉 But we still need your help to finish strong!

There’s still time to donate and help us make a difference in our community. 💙📖

🗓️ The book drive ends Wednesday, August 19th!

Every book counts, so let’s see if we can reach our goal before the deadline! Thank you to everyone who has already donated and supported our drive. 💕

Recently, members of Altrusa Club of Statesboro were proud to provide lunch for the hardworking VFW volunteers serving at 7th Mile Farm!

These dedicated volunteers from VFW Post 10825 and the American Legion spent their Saturday preparing camps at the farm for foster children, and we were honored to support them with a well-deserved meal and a chance to relax during their busy day.

📸 The photos feature:
• Justin Williams preparing his lunch during a volunteer break
• A delicious lunch spread prepared for the volunteers
• Joseph Owens and his grandson Camde enjoying lunch together
• Loralei Cox and her father Keith Cox sharing a meal at the farm
• Members of VFW Post 10825 taking a break from their volunteer efforts

Thank you to these incredible men and women for their continued service to our community and to the children who will benefit from their work at 7th Mile Farm!

Congratulations to our Altrusans of the Year, Jill Nevil and Pam Lavender, for their outstanding leadership and dedication this year!

Their hard work in diversifying our club’s fundraising efforts has not only strengthened our impact but also helped ensure a more sustainable future for the causes we serve including our Ruth MacKinnon Literacy Program. Because of their vision and commitment, our club is growing, evolving, and reaching even more people in our community.

We are so grateful for all they’ve done—and proud to celebrate the difference they continue to make! 💙
