Powell County Schools is increasing their property taxes.

There will be a special called Board meeting Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. eastern time to adopt the tax rate. The agenda is attached.

Heads up.

Below is the agenda for the Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Along with other Board business, we will be voting to propose the new tax rate. New law requires Boards of Education to propose the new rate at one meeting, place an advertisement for two weeks on what the new proposed rate will be in newspaper and the district website as well as social media, and then hold another meeting to set the proposed rate. We will be recommending to the Board to propose the 4% rate plus 0.3 cents for exonerations. This rate does not require a hearing and is not subject to recall. The rate will be discussed at the meeting tomorrow and then will be advertised once the Board makes their determination.
