Every parent deserves the opportunity for a healthy pregnancy, a safe birth, and a strong start for their family. But Black mothers in Missouri continue to face significant disparities in maternal health outcomes.

To help advance solutions and support community-led change, MFH invites Black-led and Black-serving organizations that support the well-being of Black mothers, birthing people, and their families to apply for funding.

Creating healthier outcomes for Black mothers requires addressing the conditions that shape health before, during, and after pregnancy. That means strengthening systems, policies, and community supports that help families thrive.

We are proud to announce the MFH Creator Fellowship — a six-month program for Missouri-based creators who want to dig deeper into the issues that impact health and wellbeing in their communities and share what they learn with a broader audience.

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend, expert training, and a built-in community of creators. They’ll work and learn together, using their communications skills to help Missourians better understand topics like access to food, health care, affordable housing, good jobs, safe communities, clean air and water, or structural barriers like racism and discrimination, which impact health and wellbeing in deep ways.

Know someone who should apply? Tag them in the comments or share this post with them.

📅 Apply by July 3 here: https://mffh.org/the-foundation/funding-and-research/apply-for-our-inaugural-mfh-creator-fellowship/

The latest Speak Up MO findings highlight the top concerns facing Missourians and unsurprisingly, cost of living continues to dominate. Nearly 7 in 10 respondents rated the cost of health care as an “extremely” or “very serious” problem.

As the 2026 Missouri legislative session winds down this week, there is an important question to consider: How well did policymakers respond to the concerns Missourians are raising every day?

From the affordability of care to the rising cost of essentials, these findings underscore the real pressures families are navigating across our state. Listening to Missourians’ experiences and translating those concerns into meaningful policy solutions is essential to building a healthier Missouri where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Our prevention partner, Jolie Foreman of Shelby County Cares , shares what it was like to be interviewed nationally for 60 Minutes, and offers some tips for anyone engaged public health advocacy.

If someone had told Jolie Foreman that one day she would be speaking on a televised broadcast to 10 million viewers, she wouldn’t have believed them. The topic, firearm su***de, can be overwhelming even in private conversations, let alone on a national platform. “Two years ago I couldn’t hardl...
