Yesterday marked one year since our family's world changed forever.
On June 26, we learned through a Facebook post that our beloved Raven Richmond had been murdered in Ferguson in a domestic dispute. At first, we couldn't believe it. We were certain it had to be another Raven.
Sadly, it wasn't.
Over the past year, we've often thought about the conversations we wish we'd had, the phone calls we wish we'd made, and the "I love yous" we wish we'd said one more time.
If there's one lesson we've learned, it's this: never assume there will always be another chance to reach out to someone you love.
Raven had an infectious laugh, a generous heart, and a way of making everyone feel welcome. She joined our family when she was just three days old. She was a big part of our family, and she always will be.
In Raven's honor, we created the Raven Richmond Foundation.
Our mission is to support women experiencing domestic violence and to encourage children in foster care and the families who open their hearts to them—causes that are deeply personal to our family and to Raven's story.
