🚍 METRO IS JOINING RAISE TRANSIT THIS MONDAY

This coming Monday, August 17, Metro Transit will join our RAISE Transit organizing meeting for a focused conversation with riders and advocates.

We've spent the past several weeks developing questions as a group, and Metro will receive several of those questions ahead of time so they can provide accurate information and data rather than using meeting time to research answers.

What to expect Monday

🕖 7:00 PM— Metro will have up to 10 minutes to share information or make a presentation.

🗣️ Q&A— RAISE will then lead the discussion through the questions developed by our group. We'll ask Metro to keep responses to approximately 3 minutes per question so there is time for discussion and follow-up.

🙋 Additional questions — If time allows, we'll open the floor for additional questions at the end.

The goal isn't to control the conversation. It's to make sure we have enough structure to actually have a conversation and get meaningful answers within our one-hour meeting.

Everyone is welcome. You don't have to be a RAISE member to attend. If you ride Metro, depend on transit, advocate for better mobility, or simply want to hear directly from Metro, we'd love to have you join us.

On Saturday, September 12, we're bringing something new to St. Louis.

ALL WAYS STL Connected Mobility Festival is a FREE community event at Cortex Commons celebrating all the different ways people move through our city, and all the things that connect us along the way.

And we're filling the afternoon with things to see, do, learn, experience, and eat.

🚲 BRING YOUR BIKE

Trailnet will be hosting a hands-on bike demonstration where you can learn how to keep your bike rolling, including flat repair, brake maintenance, chain care and ABC Quick Checks.

🏙️ BUILD A BETTER STREET

Step into Home Street Home from Missourians for Responsible Transportation and build your own streetscape while learning how street design and Complete Streets can change the way communities work.

You may even get to see a mini traffic-calming demonstration!

🖐️ SEE ACCESSIBILITY IN ACTION

Explore accessibility and tactile technology with StrongGo Industries and Navilens and discover how the spaces around us can be designed for more people.

📜 EXPLORE ST. LOUIS HISTORY

The I Am St. Louis banner exhibit from the Missouri Historical Society will be at the festival for the day, bringing stories of St. Louis and the people who make this city what it is.

🌳 DISCOVER YOUR REGION

Connect with organizations working on trails, transit, walking, biking, environmental issues, aging, accessibility, technology and more: including Great Rivers Greenway, Transform314, Citizens for Modern Transit, S.M.A.R.T. convened by Paraquad, Trailnet, Missouri Coalition for the Environment, St. Louis Public Library, St. Louis Area Agency on Aging, Missouri Council of the Blind, National Federation of the Blind and many others.

🚌 AND TRANSIT WILL BE PART OF IT

Metro is participating in ALL WAYS STL, with final details on their festival activities to be announced in the coming days.

WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE MISSED?

We talk about public transportation a lot in terms of routes, buses, trains, headways, fares and funding.

But transportation isn't really about any of those things.

It's about where those things allow you to go.

Think back to a time when transportation made something possible for you.

Maybe it was:

A first job you couldn't have reached otherwise.

A concert or sporting event you finally got to attend.

A doctor's appointment.

A college class.

A first date.

A trip across town to see family.

A weekend adventure.

A childhood memory.

Or simply the ability to leave your neighborhood and experience somewhere completely different.

What is one place, experience, opportunity, or relationship that public transportation made possible for you?

Where is somewhere you would go if transportation made it genuinely easy for you to get there?

We're asking because ridership statistics can tell us how many people boarded a vehicle. They can't tell us what happened after they got off.

That's the part of transportation we don't talk about enough.

In three letters to Congress over the past 10 days, APTA, together with 85 Coalition partners, urged Congress to preserve FY 2026 transportation investment levels (including guaranteed funding from the Highway Trust Fund and advance appropriations) in any Continuing Resolution (CR) and Surface Transportation Authorization Extension Act.

Without advance appropriations, public transit investment would be cut 20 percent. Passenger rail investment would be cut 83 percent and receive no guaranteed funding. Congress must enact a CR and Surface Transportation Extension Act by October 1.
