Hi family and friends!
I just wanted to get on here and add a little update. Yes we are still waiting. But we know a little one can pop up at anytime. Last week there was a pop up for a baby girl in New Orleans that out profile was shown to. Birth mom chose a different family. But this is what i mean when I say “at any time”. I added a little wish list ive been building up on amazon for awhile. It’s no pressure to gift anything, but i figured it wouldnt hurt to put it out there. We have a lot of stuff we saved from the boys, but with it being for a little girl now, there are little things here and there id like to have!

Adoption is never a simple story. It’s can be story of beauty, but also of brokenness. It’s joy mixed with grief, belonging mixed with loss. For adoptees, birth families, and adoptive families alike, adoption is lifelong and layered.

At its best, adoption provides children with safety, love, and stability when staying with their birth family isn’t possible. But even in the best cases, it begins with loss: loss of first family, culture, and history.
At its worst, adoption is only loss. With the complete removal of culture, origin, birth family, and history. With zero recognition of trauma and complete expectation of assimilation.

Ethical adoption means holding multiple truths at the same time:
Adoption can be beautiful.
Adoption is also be painful.
Adoptive parents gain a child, while birth parents and adoptees lose something profound.

When we acknowledge the nuance, we honor everyone involved: the child, the birth family, and the adoptive family.

Adoption isn’t rescue, and it isn't only gain. It’s relationship. It's loss. It’s responsibility. It's trauma. It’s lifelong commitment. And it deserves to be approached with humility, honesty, and care.
