โ˜˜๏ธ Today is Molly Malone Day! โ˜˜๏ธ

June 13th is celebrated as Molly Malone Day in Dublin, honoring one of Ireland's most beloved folk legends.

If you've ever visited Dublin or heard the famous Irish ballad "Cockles and Mussels," you've probably heard of Molly Malone.

According to Irish folklore, Molly was a beautiful fishmonger who sold cockles and mussels from her wheelbarrow on the streets of Dublin. By day she called out, "Alive, alive, oh!" as she sold her wares. Legend says she died young from a fever, but her spirit continues to roam the streets of Dublin, forever pushing her wheelbarrow through the city's fair streets.

Whether Molly Malone was a real person or simply a character from Irish folklore remains a mystery. What is certain is that she has become an enduring symbol of Dublin. Her statue stands proudly in the heart of the city, and her song is known around the world as Dublin's unofficial anthem.

๐ŸŽถ "In Dublin's fair city, where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone..."

Today, as we celebrate Molly Malone Day, take a moment to enjoy one of Ireland's most cherished songs and remember the legendary woman who captured the heart of Dublin.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช Slรกinte to Molly Malone! โ˜˜๏ธ

Who doesn't love a good scary movie?! I know we do!

But did you know:

The Faoladh wasn't the monster people feared... it was the creature that came to save them.

In Irish legend, the Faoladh was a rare type of werewolf, but not the bloodthirsty beast seen in modern horror stories.

These mysterious shapeshifters were said to transform into wolves and roam the Irish countryside. Yet unlike most werewolf legends, the Faoladh were protectors.

They guarded children, defended the vulnerable, and guided lost travellers through dangerous wilderness.

Some tales even claim they watched over battlefields, carrying away the wounded and shielding them from further harm.

It turns one of the world's most feared creatures into something completely different.

Thank you Retrobite Irish Mythology for sharing! Follow them for more great folklore!

Looking for a way to connect with your Irish heritage, make new friends, and give back to your community?

Join the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH)!

Once a month, on a Saturday, we come together as friends and sisters to:

โ˜˜๏ธ Celebrate and preserve our Irish heritage
โ˜˜๏ธ Support charitable and volunteer efforts in our community
โ˜˜๏ธ Build lasting friendships with women who share similar values and interests
โ˜˜๏ธ Have fun while making a difference

We are currently welcoming women 18 years of age and older to join our Division.

Come spend a few hours each month with us and discover what it means to be a Lady Hibernian.

As friends. As sisters. As Irish women proud of our heritage.
