An arbitrator ordered the IRS to restore telework for NTEU represented employees—another in a series of arbitration wins against agencies stripping telework and remote work rights. We’ve won similar arbitration decisions at CBP, NPS, HHS, SEC, BEP, and CFTC. We will keep fighting to enforce our wins! https://bit.ly/3T6mXWF

Victory in Telework and Remote Work Arbitration!

We won a sweeping arbitration victory in our fight to restore your telework and remote work rights. The arbitrator found that the IRS violated our contract (Article 50 – Telework) and the Remote Work Project MOU NTEU negotiated on your behalf. IRS canceled most telework and remote work following the president’s January 2025 Presidential Memorandum ordering agencies to bring employees back to the office full time.

But the battle isn’t over. The IRS now has thirty days to appeal the award. If the IRS fails to file exceptions, the award will become final. Either way, we fully anticipate needing to continue this fight to enforce our win.

Even the IRS’s own Inspector General found that chatbots can’t match the accuracy of real IRS employees. So, it’s no surprise the IRS is now asking to hire 8,000 more workers after reckless staffing cuts did real damage. Turns out, public service still needs people.
