Today is Armed Forces Day.

This holiday is recognized annually on the third Saturday in May. Established in 1949, Armed Forces Day is meant to be a celebration of all military branches (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy and Space Force). It differs from Veterans Day in that it’s a day to honor those who are currently serving, and unlike Memorial Day the focus is on the living, not those lost. Each year, the White House releases an official proclamation of the day. In 2024, President Biden’s address read in part, “I call upon all Americans to display the flag of the United States at their homes and businesses on Armed Forces Day, and I urge citizens to learn more about military service by attending and participating in the local observances of the day.”
We wish a happy Armed Services Day to all who serve! Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I wanted to share with our Auxiliary members and friends that our longtime VFW Post 1170 member and friend, William “Billy” Garwood, passed away this morning.
He was a strong supporter of our Auxiliary and he will be greatly missed. He was an incredible champion for the Scholarship Program through his numerous years supporting the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen contests.
Funeral arrangements will be shared when available.
Please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Volunteer Project – American Pins for Veterans & Families
On Monday, May 18th at 3:00 PM, we will gather to create American Pins for Veterans and their families. These handmade pins will be distributed during the Memorial Day Event at Cave Hill Cemetery, which begins at 11:00 AM.

We plan to spend two hours working on:
Ribbons, Poppies & Wooden Hearts

Please Bring:
Glue gun, Extension cord & Scissors - All other supplies will be provided.

This is a meaningful, hands‑on project that allows us to honor our Veterans with a personal touch of appreciation. All volunteers are welcome — your time, creativity, and caring spirit help make Memorial Day especially memorable for the families we serve. This project is headed up by Karen Huffman. Thank you!

The winner of the VFW Post 1170 Auxiliary's whole hog raffle has graciously donated it back to the Auxiliary. As a result, the Auxiliary is selling packages of sausage, pork chops, and ribs to our members and its visitors. You can pick up a package of sausage for $4, a 2-pack of porkchops for $8, and a pack of ribs for $6. Please see the bartender to pay and she can help you bag up your purchase.
Thanks in advance for your purchase of these items as it will go towards the bottom line number of our Spaghetti Dinner & Fundraiser proceeds.
