We Stories: Raising Big-Hearted Kids is a new and growing organization that uses the power of children’s literature to create conversation, change, and hope in St. Louis and a stronger, more equitable and inclusive future for all.

Summer Food Program
Young persons 18 of age and under can enjoy free breakfast and/or lunch at more that 100 sites within the metropolitan St. Louis area. For more information, visit https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/departments/human-services/documents/2014-schools-out-cafe-locations.cfm

The 2017 Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the City of St. Louis runs from June 5, 2017 to August 11, 2017. Young persons 18 years of age and under can enjoy free breakfast and/or lunch at more than 60 sites within the metropolitan St. Louis area.

In addition, individuals over the age of 18, who have been determined by a state or local educational agency to have mental or physical disability, are eligible to be served meals.

To become a food distribution site in you community or to find a meal site location in your area, contact the Department of Human Services, Youth and Family Division at (314) 657-1654.

What are your kids doing this summer? Sign them up for one or more of the fun, exciting and educational summer camps offered for free by St. Louis Public Library!

Registration for all camps is required. Print and complete the Camp Application here, and bring it into any St. Louis Public Library Branch. Applications require a parent or guardian’s signature. Registration closes when the camp is full.

Campers must commit to attending all scheduled camp sessions. Parents or guardians should make arrangements for their child to arrive on time and be picked up at the end of the camp each day.

The Library cannot provide before or after care. Unexcused absences may lead to dismissal from the program.

The St. Louis Public Library offers downloadables just for Kids and Teens. Use your library card to download eBooks, Audiobooks, Comics and get suggestions on what to read during the summer from our digital collections. Download the apps to read or listen to books on your mobile device.

Do you want to give your child a summer filled with adventures, exploration and discoveries? Then sign them up for the Summer Reading Program at St. Louis Public Library.

Join St. Louis Public Library’s Summer Reading Program between May 22 and July 29, at your local SLPL location or online.

SLPL’s Summer Reading Program can help children discover new interests, try out new skills and open their eyes to a world of possibilities. Plus, they win prizes and become better readers!

Benefits of joining SLPL’s Summer Reading Program are:

• Children who read for pleasure are stronger readers and better students.
• Children who read at least five (5) books in the summer are more likely to start school ready to learn in the fall.
• Children who do not read over the summer actually lose the reading gains they made the previous year.

Make reading and the Library part of your child’s summer. Once a child is signed up, keep track of their reading and then claim prizes at any St. Louis Public Library between May 30 and July 29.

To complete SLPL’s Summer Reading Program, kids and teens must complete 5 chapter books or 15 picture books. For younger participants, books read aloud count too. Teachers can also register a class, club or daycare group.

SLPL's Summer Reading Program is organized by the St. Louis Public Library and is sponsored by the St. Louis Public Library Foundation, St. Louis Cardinals and an LSTA Grant funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the State Library.
