What you're looking at here are gathered items that were provided by the Federal Probation Office to college bound sons and daughters of several ex-offenders. Caritas has been involved in supporting the children of ex-offenders going to college for 8 years. In the past, Caritas has purchased mini-fridges, microwaves, footlockers, and other accessories for them. This year we purchased 4 laptop computers. These young men and women often have very little to prepare them for college. Often they are the first in the family to go to college - the parents not only do not have the financial means to help them but they also just aren’t aware of what the kids will need.
This is just another example of how Caritas serves a role most other social service agencies simply cannot. We listen to what our clients need to help them better serve those in need. And then we're able to respond with some of those items.
Those in need range from new-born infants and their mothers to the elderly - and everything in-between - including college-bound students!

We don't share too many photos of deliveries in action. But today, we dropped off our regular delivery to the Federal Probation Office - as well as all sorts of school supplies for children of ex-offenders. The load filled the Caritas van from top to bottom - diapers, food, cleaning supplies, along with laptops, more than 400 notebooks and a range of other materials - all to help the Federal Probation Office in their effort to get ex-offenders back on their feet. We've worked with Clark Porter for several years now (shown in the pic) and his commitment to the program is impressive!

Volunteers wanted! We're always looking for new volunteers to help with our deliveries or pickups from various suppliers and to the many client organizations we serve. More dedicated shoppers are welcome as well!
You might start as a backup, helping to fill in when others aren't available.
Ideal candidates are probably recently retired and looking to give back in some way. There's a bit of lifting involved sometimes as we load and unload but it's not that strenuous.

Fr. Bryon loved golf - and loved the Caritas Connections golf tournament - which takes place on Friday, May 15 at Aberdeen Golf Course. This is the largest (and only) fundraiser that Caritas has throughout the year. We would love to completely fill this year's tournament and have a number of sponsorship opportunities as well. Caritas Mourns the Loss of Father Tom Bryon

It is with profound sadness that we inform you that Father Tom Bryon passed away on Monday, March 16.
There will be a Mass for Father Bryon at Saint Gerard-Majella on Thursday, March 26 at 10 am.
Father Bryon was the heart and soul of Caritas. He had a special place in his heart for helping the poor and underserved.
Father never wanted the light to shine on him. But he was a beacon of light for so many. What he started almost 50 years ago, we shall continue, doing our best to connect those who have with those who need.

God Blessed us with Father Bryon.
