Caritas Mourns the Loss of Father Tom Bryon

It is with profound sadness that we inform you that Father Tom Bryon passed away on Monday, March 16.
There will be a Mass for Father Bryon at Saint Gerard-Majella on Thursday, March 26 at 10 am.
Father Bryon was the heart and soul of Caritas. He had a special place in his heart for helping the poor and underserved.
Father never wanted the light to shine on him. But he was a beacon of light for so many. What he started almost 50 years ago, we shall continue, doing our best to connect those who have with those who need.

God Blessed us with Father Bryon.
And now, God Bless Father Bryon.

We recently sent a survey to our volunteers asking what they liked most about volunteering. Here's what one of them had to say:
"For volunteers, the meaning often lies in the tangible nature of the work. Food is sorted. Clothing is packed. Deliveries are made. There is something profoundly satisfying about seeing the direct result of effort. In a world where so much feels abstract or overwhelming, Caritas offers a clear answer to the question: What can I do? You can show up. You can lift a box. You can load a truck. You can make a difference today. Volunteering with Caritas is meaningful because it feels close to the Gospel: direct, humble, practical, and relational."

A few more pics from the St. Gerard Majella School canned food drive that took place during Catholic Schools Week. This annual drive is a great opportunity for students to learn about the importance of helping others and kicking in a little extra effort to make it all come together. Once again, thanks to the students and staff and our own Caritas volunteers for their help. The good we can all do together is amazing!

For the past several years, students at St. Gerard Majella School have hosted a Canned Food Drive as part of Catholic Schools Week to benefit Caritas Connections and the clients we serve. This year, they not only collected 1553 cans, but they also helped organize, box and then deliver the cans to the Caritas garage. On behalf of the many recipients of this awesome generosity, we say "Thank you" to all the students and staff that made this possible!

For the second year in a row, Christmas came early to Caritas Connections and the many clients and ultimately individuals we serve thanks to IPI (Industrial Project Innovation). IPI employees here in St. Louis donated hundreds of items to Caritas - food, clothing, personal care items, bottled water - which a Christmas cheery team then helped box and load into the Caritas van, filling it to the brim. It is so awesome when an entire company gets in that giving mode - and it's just another example of the Caritas Connections mission at work - connecting those who have with those who need.

Caritas Connections wants to extend our thanks to Oakville Dental Care and Craftsmen Cares for their recent donations! Oakville Dental had a food and essential items drive, asking their customers as well as their employees to donate to Caritas. Craftsmen Cares also had a drive where they asked for fruit to be donated. All of these items will be on their way to the clients we serve. Donation drives like these are such a blessing!

During the recent frigid weather, one of our clients, Peter & Paul Community Services (PPCS) has been hosting pop-up shelters for the unhoused. (In addition to their permanent facility--the Jugan Shelter.) Pop-Up shelters are temporary locations where people living on the streets can get out of the cold.

Please see the needs lists in the photo.

During the holiday season, people often ask how they can help or what they can donate. This list has very specific needs for the pop-up shelters.

If you or someone you know would like to donate any of these items, they can ...
1. Bring the items to the Caritas garage labeled the "Jugan Shelter" and we will deliver them.
2. OR Take the items directly to the PPCS location in Soulard.

Caritas Connections extends our Thanksgiving wishes to all of our volunteers who make this organization work. We were happy to celebrate all that they do during our recent Volunteer Mass & Appreciation Dinner.
We also extend our thanks to all of our donor organizations, donors and long-time supporters. And of course we wish a Happy Thanksgiving to the many client organizations we serve and especially the thousands of people that they serve throughout the metro St. Louis area.

Caritas Connections was happy to present to a local chapter of PEO International on Friday - a not for profit organization devoted to helping women around the world advance through education. They strongly believe in the power of community and connection - so we were on common ground as we told them more about the good that Caritas does throughout the metro St. Louis area. When the presentation was over, there were bags of food and other personal care items waiting by our vehicle which will be distributed this week!
