Congratulations, Jefferson County. This is the person you chose to call “Judge.”
Elections have consequences, and apparently this is what passes for professionalism from someone preparing to take the bench.
A judicial office is supposed to represent impartiality, professionalism, restraint, and respect for the integrity of the court. Publicly taking a news story about debt-collection lawsuits and using it to take a cheap shot at a political opponent, especially someone associated with the judiciary, is the exact opposite of the temperament I expect from an elected judge.
This isn’t about whether you supported her in the election. The election is over. This is about conduct.
Judges are entrusted to hear cases involving people they may disagree with, people who may have opposed them politically, attorneys who may have supported their opponents, and citizens from every walk of life. That requires the public to have confidence that personal grudges and political biases stay outside the courtroom. I this the type of behavior you want to see from a “judge” you may come before some day?
Posts like this do nothing to build that confidence.
You wanted to be a judge. You ran to be a judge. You were elected to be a judge. Then conduct yourself like one.
Jefferson County deserves a judiciary that rises above campaign-style attacks once the votes are counted. Watching an incoming elected official continue this kind of behavior is disappointing, unprofessional, and frankly disgusting.
The campaign is over. The standard should be higher now…. not lower.
