Today marks the beginning of National Police Week 2026. This week serves as a time for communities across our nation to honor the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women in law enforcement, while remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Peace Officers Memorial Day will be observed on May 15.

National Police Week was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to recognize the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers nationwide. Throughout the week, memorial events and ceremonies will take place in Washington, D.C., including the National Candlelight Vigil honoring fallen officers and their families.

The O’Fallon Police Department proudly stands alongside agencies across the country in honoring the fallen, supporting surviving families, and recognizing the commitment of those who continue to serve our communities each and every day.

We thank all law enforcement officers, past and present, for their service, professionalism, and dedication to public safety.
