Have you been enjoying the sharply designed graphics we've been posting? It's been a tremendous honor to share the work of the 2021 cohort.

Huge shout out to Symone Palmer who did all of the work to bring the social media post concepts of the 2021 St. Louis fellowship class to life through visual design.

Meet 2021 fellow Bo! Bo is a current renewable energy attorney in Kansas City whose work includes fighting for a more just and equitable judiciary.

“NLC is a space where every weekend you get to discuss important progressive topics, and challenge your own assumptions, with a fantastic group of people whose backgrounds and experiences are vastly different than you own.”

NLC is a unique program that supports leaders all across the state - and empowers them to tackle important issues facing the region. And it’s all done at no cost to participants.

Five years have passed since 49 lives were taken at Pulse Nightclub. The violent attack targeted what was intended to be a safe and celebratory night for Latinx LGBTQ people in Florida. The overwhelming majority of those who were killed were Latinx, Black, and LGBTQ.

Today we honor the victims, their families, and all who were impacted by the mass shooting at Pulse. We affirm that LGBTQ spaces are sacred spaces that must be protected and celebrated. And we commit ourselves to building a world where everyone has the freedom to thrive with joy.

Local engagement with national support, that's one of the biggest benefits of .

During the first weekend of the 2021 cohort, Nkoyo of the NLC Atlanta chapter and Krysta of the NLC St. Louis chapter met in a virtual breakout session. After connecting over their mutual desire to do work that impacts parent engagement and parent advocacy skills, they quickly realized that they could support each other in their passions.

Nkoyo and Krysta set up monthly meetings to stay connected, talk through their progress, give advice, and make sure parents are supported.

NLC is all about breaking down silos and building ecosystems for collective impact.

Each cohort is composed of local changemakers with unique passions and expertise.

Public engagement consultant and 2021 fellow, Chandra Taylor, is leveraging NLC to make connections relevant to their career:

"Sometimes I have to conduct stakeholder interviews for clients who want to hear from various populations within the St. Louis region. For the next round of interviews, I immediately thought of a cohort fellow who works at an organization that provides resources and serves as a helpline for the LGBTQIA community. What attracted me to the organization was their concern for people. Also, how they support LGBTQIA people from marginalized groups. After talking about the project, organization, and answering their questions, they agreed to meet! I’m excited to get their perspective on the region."

NLC fellows are placed into small groups for peer support, accountability, and connection throughout their 6-month fellowship experience.

While LEAD Group members Xavier Blackwell, Krysta Grangeno, James Sykes, and Allie Farrell had never met before , they quickly connected over their passion for education equity across the lifespan—sparking collaborations inside and outside of NLC.

New Leaders Council provides local changemakers place-based training and a national network of support – propelling our alumni to create the country we aspire to be.

Fundraising skills are a part of the 6-month NLC curriculum and this year the 2021 cohort is putting their knowledge to work on our digital channels.

In the weeks leading up to their graduation, they'll be sharing social media content about their experiences in NLC.
