One Classroom One Classroom helps schools welcome every child into the heart of Catholic education. Their youngest child was born with Down syndrome.

Inspired by the Holy Spirit, One Classroom was founded by parents of children with special needs with the goal of helping our St. Louis, MO archdiocese and parents make inclusive education possible in our parish schools! Meet our founders/directors: LeeAnn and Anthony Armitage:

LeeAnn and Anthony are parents of two children and are members of Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Webster Groves, MO. Afte

r extensive research to determine the optimal educational pathway for their son with Down syndrome LeeAnn and Anthony were inspired by inclusive education and the many Catholic schools around the country implementing inclusive programs. The opportunity of inclusive education, a strong belief in Catholic education, and the desire to educate their children together in one school created a passion to help all families of children with special needs and to serve Christ's church by helping our St. Louis archdiocese schools offer a new option for educating children with special needs.

Last week, we celebrated the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and our Partner School Sacred Heart Catholic School in Valley Park.

Sacred Heart Valley Park is "Rooted in Faith. Growing in Knowledge. Inspired for Life." They nurture the whole child, spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically, empowering students from Kindergarten through 8th grade to become faithful, curious, and compassionate leaders.

To implement best practices in inclusive Catholic education, you have to learn from the best minds in the business.

That’s exactly what Catholic school leaders from across the Archdiocese of St. Louis did during One Classroom’s two-day Summer Leader Academy in early June.

This included several members from the Office of Catholic Education and Formation for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Webster University, and Saint Louis University’s Herrmann Center for Innovative Catholic Education, all integral partners in One Classroom’s mission.

We wanted to give a special thank you to Dr. Anthony Van Gessel, Maureen Lovette, Dr. Michael Boyle, Kimberly Huelsing, Kyle Van Frank, Colleen Mooney, and Dr. Stephanie Mahfood (all pictured below) for your continued support of One Classroom and inclusive Catholic education!

Happy Feast of St. Anthony of Padua!

An incredible preacher, educator, and priest, St. Anthony converted many souls through his words and witness to the Word of God. Today we look to St. Anthony as patron for lost things, the sick, pregnant women, and teachers, especially of the theology.

St. Anthony, please inspire couples pregnant with a child with intellectual and developmental disabilities to choose life and to know of the profound love and comfort of the one, true God.

And, St. Anthony, please give us and all educators the words to preach the necessity of inclusion in our Catholic schools and the ability to approach every student with reverence and love.

This year, One Classroom instituted three new awards to honor and celebrate meritorious contributions to the work of inclusive Catholic education in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

The past May Kristina Cyr was presented with the One Classroom Educator of the Year Award. This award honors a teacher, paraprofessional, or other member of a One Classroom partner school's faculty/staff who goes above and beyond to ensure students with disabilities and learning differences experience meaningful inclusion. Mrs. Cyr, is a talented paraprofessional at St. Paul Catholic School in St. Paul known for consistently going above and beyond, exhibiting an unparalleled devotion to her students. Mrs. Cyr educates with compassion, commitment, and a servant’s heart. Thank you, Mrs. Cyr for all your hard work ensuring inclusion for all!
