Proud of the work that Bait al Mal (House of Goods) is doing in helping the the new Afghan immigrants. Welcome Neighbor is another organization that is helping families acclimate to American life; a team of individuals are partnered with a family and help the new arrivals with their daily struggles (eg. going to the grocery store, doctor, school enrollment, etc...). Both organizations are looking for volunteers and contributions. See end of NPR story for contact information for both organizations.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell graciously invited Muslim community leaders to his office as an ongoing outreach program with various faith groups and other organizations. He and his team answered our many questions about crime, homicide rate in the area and how it is calculated, success of diversion programs, the opioid epidemic, the role the prosecutor’s office will have in helping new refugees acclimate to the region and other topics and issues. It was a very informative session.

Building the future, together

Muslims for a Better America is a 501 c (3) organization based out of St. Louis, Missouri. Our mission is twofold:

  • To educate the Missouri Muslim community about the civic processes that impact their daily lives

  • To develop more opportunities for community engagement
  • In our experience, most who hold a negative perception of the Muslim community have never actually met a Muslim before. Instead of seeing the human, they are exposed to a very specific ‘caricature’ of what a Muslim is. When this narrow view is the only lens through which we are viewed, we become the “other” and those negative perceptions then turn into negative actions - as evidenced by the 44% increase in reported anti-Muslim hate crimes from 2015-2016.
