Over my decade-long association with Sri Aurobindoβs Educational academy and society (SAEA) in Gadipalli village in rural Telangana, I have felt honored and delighted observing and learning from students and teachers. The Academy is a rare gem in this specific rural setting, focussing on providing holistic education. Through sensory, physical, and hands- on education students are prepared not only to take care of themselves but think at large about their communities when they grow up. At each of my upwards of 10 visits over the years, I have been delighted to see the rural children from disadvantaged backgrounds thriving joyfully at their own pace.
I have been amazed by how the teachers, despite their own lack of physical education training, continue to learn and provide these opportunities for the children. In spite of the challenges, and limited resources they face due to distance from Hyderabad, the nearby big city, and lack of local skilled support, they are progressing. It has been such a gratifying experience to watch the simplicity and the love the children show for learning despite challenging family and personal circumstances.
Most of the children come from low socio economic background but demonstrate their wealth through their generosity and simplicity. As word has spread about the school and how it is benefitting students and the communities, the number of students has steadily increased from just 75 students to 300 students representing 15 villages and tribal areas covering a 10 km span. The demand is only increasing. The school continues to be grateful to Asha for education donors and supporters for helping meet this important need in Gadipalli village and surrounding areas.
