Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Today, in addition to domestic disaster relief, the American Red Cross offers compassionate services in five other areas: community services that help the needy; support and comfort for military members and their families; the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products; educational programs that promote health and safety; and international relief and development programs. The American Red Cross is where people mobilize to help their neighbors—across the street, across the country, and across the world—in emergencies. Each year, in communities large and small, victims of some 70,000 disasters turn to neighbors familiar and new—the more than half a million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross. Through nearly 700 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world. Some four million people give blood—the gift of life—through the Red Cross, making it the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. service members separated from their families by military duty stay connected. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global network of 186 national societies, the Red Cross helps restore hope and dignity to the world's most vulnerable people. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work. The American National Red Cross is headquartered in Washington, Gail J. McGovern is President and CEO, and Bonnie McElveen-Hunter is Chairman of the Board

As summer approaches, stay safe this season and protect yourself and your family from tick bites 💪

Ticks are very common across Germany, especially in grassy areas, forests, parks, and even your own backyard—so it’s important to know the right way to handle them 🌿

✅To correctly remove a tick, use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull straight out. Make sure not to twist or pull at an angle, as this can cause parts of the tick to remain in the skin.

🐾 Keep your furry friends safe! 🐾

Some everyday items can be harmful to our pets—know what to keep out of reach to protect your four-legged family members. 💚
From chocolate to household products, a little awareness goes a long way in preventing emergencies. If you think your pet has been exposed to something harmful, don’t wait—reach out to your vet right away.
Because their safety matters just as much as ours. 🐶❤️

🐾 June is National Pet Preparedness Month! 🐾

Our pets are family—and just like the rest of our loved ones, they rely on us to keep them safe during emergencies. 💛🐶🐱
Do you have a plan for your furry (or feathered) friends?

Take a few minutes this month to:
-Build a pet emergency kit (food, water, medications, and comfort items like toys and blankets)
-Keep vet records handy
-Make a plan for where your pets will go if you need to evacuate 🚗🏠
Disasters can happen anytime, but being prepared can make all the difference—for everyone in your family. ❤️

💬 Tell us in the comments—what’s already in your pet’s go-bag? 🎒🐾

According to a new survey conducted by the American Red Cross, 8 out of 10 people believe it’s very important to know CPR and how to use an AED, yet only a quarter of Americans feel confident performing CPR or using an AED.

•Every year in the U.S., more than 300,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, and about 60-80% of them die before reaching the hospital. If someone collapses at home or in public, CPR and AED training could mean the difference between life and death.
•Studies show bystanders often hesitate to step in during a cardiac emergency due to fear and lack of training. Gain the skills and confidence to act when seconds matter by taking a Red Cross CPR and first aid course.

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, at any time. CPR and AED use isn’t just for first responders and medical professionals. During cardiac arrest, every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a person’s chance of survival by about 7% to 10%. When CPR and an AED is used within the first few minutes of collapse, survival rates can double or even triple

January 2026 American Red Cross Lifesaving Award recipients

In the center of this photo are two heroes who sprang into action to save a life. When a teacher collapsed at Lejeune High School in North Carolina, school nurse Betty Thompson immediately started performing CPR. Soon, teacher Bradley Helsel jumped in to help. Because of quick action, teamwork, and training, a life was saved.

“Fifteen years of teaching CPR and 40 years as a registered nurse all came together in that moment,” Betty said. “Everyone should know CPR".
