Mark your calendar for an all-day program on July 18th at Burr Oak Woods Nature Center (Blue Springs) , “Missouri Monarch Mission”!
In the morning, enjoy children’s crafts, and nature walks on trails by the Nature Center. Check out the Monarch Watch garden for ideas for your own! See some artwork, too!
Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at a shady picnic table.
Beginning at Noon, there will be a speakers’ program in the auditorium. We have three great speakers:

MISSOURI MONARCH MISSION

Join us for a day devoted to monarch butterfly habitat, on Saturday July 18th at Burr Oak Woods, in Blue Springs!

In the morning, enjoy children’s crafts and nature walks on the trails around the Nature Center. Check out the Monarch Way Station in front, for ideas to add to your garden. We invite artists to display their nature-themed paintings!
Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on a shady picnic table!
At Noon, we will listen to three speakers in the auditorium, including:
Kristen Baum, Director at Monarch Watch (KU, Lawrence)
Lilly Germeroth, from the Missouri Prairie Foundation
Jessica Poush, The Nature Conservancy—Missouri

The Thomas Hart Benton Group of the Missouri Sierra Club has been advocating for monarch habitat for several years. Recent data indicates monarch migration through Missouri in the fall is reduced; we are looking for resources to further study and improve migration habitat.

Our Conservation Committee will have the monthly meeting by Zoom on Tuesday, May 5th from 6:30pm to 8 pm.
We’ll talk about “Team Monarch”, birding teams, and our upcoming program on July 18th at Burr Oak Woods. We have three great speakers, and will need volunteer help for the event, “Missouri Monarch Mission”.

Finish celebrating Earth Day with us on the newly opened Rock Island Bridge in Kansas City, KS.

Entrance to the Rock Island Bridge venue is currently ONLY open on the Missouri side, by the HyVee Arena (1800 Genessee St. Kansas City, MO 64102). Free Parking is available in the HyVee Arena lot and on the street in front of the bridge entrance. Additional parking is available in the West Bottoms parking garage for $5.
