📣 Exciting news! Our friends at the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy have released a new podcast: "The Past in Pieces: Tales from the Missouri-Kansas Border War."

Each fifteen-minute episode explores an aspect of the nineteenth-century struggle over slavery in the Kansas-Missouri borderlands, where the Civil War began. Listeners encounter Jayhawkers, Bushwhackers, and ordinary families; moments of political crisis and personal tragedy; and stories of the harrowing violence that fell most heavily on civilians.

We are pleased to welcome Mark M. Biggs to Missouri Humanities' Board of Directors. Biggs is Faculty Emeritus at Missouri State University and is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work highlights Missouri history, culture, and veterans’ experiences.

He completed a Cinematography Fellowship at the American Film Institute, and he holds an M.A. in Humanities Studies and a B.A. in English and American Literature.
