Forb Friday โข Pale Lobelia (๐๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ข ๐ข๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฅ๐ช๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ข๐ต๐ข)
Pale Lobelia is an annual forb that belongs to the Bellflower family (Campanulaceae). It can be found fairly statewide, however, it is absent from some of the northernmost counties. Pale Lobelia occurs is a variety of grassland habitats including woodlands, flatwoods, and prairies. This forb has a very slender stem that is typically unbranched. The floral spike consists of numerous pale blue to white small tubular flowers. The flowers are typically in bloom from May - June.
Similar to other members of the ๐๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ช๐ข genus, Pale Lobelia is more than likely pollinated by long-tongued bees. Other species in the genus are also visited by butterflies, skippers, and beetles.
