Today we celebrate, uplift, and honor the incredible Black educators who shape our schools, communities, and future every single day. ❤️🖤💚

Black teachers do far more than teach content. They inspire, advocate, lead, mentor, challenge systems, create belonging, and remind students what is possible. Representation matters, and the impact of Black educators reaches far beyond the classroom walls.

SDNEA recognizes and appreciates the strength, joy, resilience, brilliance, and dedication Black educators bring to public education every day.

Thank you for the lives you change, the barriers you break, and the communities you help build. We see you. We appreciate you. We celebrate you.

Teacher Appreciation Week always feels a little strange as an educator because the truth is…none of us do this work for appreciation. We do it because we believe kids deserve someone who shows up for them every single day.

But this week, I hope people remember that behind every classroom door are educators spending their own money, their own time, and honestly sometimes pieces of themselves to create spaces where kids feel safe, seen, challenged, and loved.

Public education runs on the dedication of teachers, paras, counselors, support staff, custodians, secretaries, librarians, and so many others who continue showing up even when the system makes it hard.

I’m endlessly grateful for the colleagues beside me, the students who make the hard days worth it, and the communities that continue to support public schools.

Strong schools build strong communities. Always. 🍎❤️

Teacher/Educator Appreciation Week + Nurse Appreciation Week ❤️

Let’s be real,no free coffee or cookie is enough for what teachers and nurses do every single day…but I’ll still take the free coffee ☕️

If you’re in either group, this week there are actually some solid deals out there:

Free meals, drinks, and discounts at places like Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle, Whataburger, and more
Giveaways (like free Chipotle 👀) for both teachers and nurses
Retail discounts (Nike, Crocs, Lululemon, etc.) for healthcare workers

And yes…you usually just need your school or work ID.

But also…
Support your people.
Check in on your teacher/educator friends.
Thank your school nurse.

Because appreciation shouldn’t just be a week.

We ❤️ all of our teacher level members, whether you’re a teacher, school psych, OT, PT, SLP, social worker, BCBA, or any of our other related services members!

When one district is under attack, we all show up.

Union solidarity means we don’t stand by, we stand together. Because a strong union means strong teachers, and strong teachers build strong communities.

What’s happening in Ferguson-Florissant is bigger than one district. The attempt to strip educators of their contract is an attempt to strip away protected Missouri Constitutional right, and that affects every single one of us.

Not on our watch.

We showed up because we believe in each other. We showed up because educators deserve respect, protection, and a voice. We showed up because our students deserve stability and schools rooted in fairness.

This is what solidarity looks like:
✔ Standing shoulder to shoulder
✔ Using our voices
✔ Refusing to back down

We are stronger together, and we’re not going anywhere.

Public education doesn’t advocate for itself, we do.

Today’s PAC Sustainer event was a powerful reminder of what happens when educators show up, stay informed, and take action. We heard directly from 8 Missouri legislators, who are also proud MNEA members, as they shared insight, answered questions, and engaged in meaningful conversation about the future of education in our state.

Want to make an ongoing impact?
📲 Scan the QR code to become a PAC Sustainer. Even $5/month helps amplify educator voices and protect public education in Missouri.

This is how we build power. This is how we create change.
