Hoopn' for Hearts, on behalf of the players and staff, would like to extend our condolences to the family of Alvin Valentine. Brother Alvin was a member of our basketball familly playing in previous sessions with team Some Guys. A good father and husband who brought laughter and a keen eyesight to the game. Rest well brother.

September 3, 2023.....August 20, 2023...was Championship Sunday for our Spring 2023 session.

It featured two 2-time champions...Ball So Hard, and Mo' Fallon. Two teams who are frequently at the top of the standings, and are mainstays in the final four of our sessions. Ironically...these two champions have never played each other for a title.

A very well played game, and as most title games go...the team that make the better or final run usually wins. As was the case in this game. Mo' Fallon took control of a relative low scoring 1st half in which both teams played strong defensively. Ball So Hard was able to take the lead in the 2nd half and Mo' Fallon could not overtake the now back to back champions...a first in our league.

As a testament to the competition in our league, Ball So Hard, became the 1st team to go back to back since our inception, July 2019. Congratulations!! on a difficult task.

Hoopn' for Hearts sees 100+ men...30 yrs & older...participate in this initiative to raise awareness for...& embark on the early detection of Hypertension... and the subsequent control of this silent killer. As athletes we play this game for the love of it, but the health initiative is the most important.

The attached video captures the essence of Hoopn' for Hearts, a features game highlights and players/coaches & supporters speak on why they got involved...& the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of Hypertension. And as always, our league is dedicated tribute to our brother Moris Collins who was taken from us due to complications surrounding Hypertension. He is the inspiration behind Hoopn' for Hearts. A member of team Mo' Fallon..."Mo" never had the chance to compete with his teammates in our league.

The Winter league is scheduled to begin early October 2023. Games are played on Sundays @ the O'Fallon...aka "Mo Fallon" Park YMCA in St. Louis, MO. 4343 W. Florissant Blvd. 63107. Our home since 2019.

August 15, 2023 - These playoffs have once again been packed with action! The number one seed has been true to form and has played there way into the finals. Perhaps an upset on paper, the #7 seed, last sessions champ, Ball So Hard, knocked off the #2 seed, team Venom (a former champ), in the first round.

The #6 seed, team All In fought back against #7 Ball So Hard to come within a critical call/no call to fall by 2 points on a made free throw by BSH. Great game!!

This session's championship game features two 2-time champions who oddly never played each other for the chip, despite the two squads being regular contenders! A great dynamic to determine who would be our first 3-time champ!!

July 22,, 2023 - Another great session in the books! Hoopn' for Hearts, with a commitment to the early detection of hypertension for men 30 and over, just finished our Spring 2023 regular season on last Sunday. We've been growing this league since the Fall of 2019. We'd like to thank all of the men who participate in our league and accept the education on hypertension and the upcoming financial literacy objectives.

We'd also like to thank the O'fallon Park YMCA staff for allowing us to call it our home. We look forward to building our hypertension program and adding other educational and stability initiatives through the YMCA and affiliates!!

Getting to the hoops'...we had another competitive regular season with teams Mo' Fallon and Venom finishing with 9-2 records. Both former champions, with Mo' looking for its 3rd title and Venom seeking its 2nd. However...teams Wellston, Bye-You, Tru Money, & Ball So Hard will have something to say about that. In fact the 8 team playoff bracket is a tough one and a upset may be had!!!

Playoff start Sunday July 23rd (see bracket) with the play-in game for the 8th seed. Join us...support these young men taking a step in the right direction by paying attention to hypertension and the damage it can cause.

As always we like to thank the Collins family for their support as we forever salute our brother Moris "Mo" Collins...rest easy bro!

April 26, 2023 - What a great start to the Spring session! Priority one is recognizing the benefit of our partnership with the YMCA in conducting the hypertension screening for the league, and the resulting education for our players and staff. In doing so, a big thanx goes out to Desiree Williams, Community Health Program Director Manager, and her staffer Jamie Austin, along with Lennox Forrester, O'Fallon Park YMCA Director for actively solidifying this community partnership. Having conducted two screenings thus far, these efforts are keeping guys abreast of their hypertension levels while emphasizing the importance of keeping the readings low!!

On to the games! We are 3 games in, team rosters are set, we have 2 newly formed teams to give us 12 teams for the session. Familar names are at the top of the leaderboard with Mo'Fallon, a two-time champ, leading the way.

Some good games have been featured in this 1st quarter of the session, which only leads to some upcoming great matchups. At this point a good 5 squads look poised to compete for the title, but its early and I'm sure more teams will have something to say!!...stay tuned and join us Sundays...9am to Noon @ O'fallon Park YMCA...4343 W. Florissant 63107.

As always we like to recognize our fallen brother Moris "Mo" Collins. He is the inspiration for our league and the driving force for his teammates on team Mo' Fallon. Thanx to the Collins family for supporting our efforts, and always willing to do for this cause!!

March 25, 2023 - We are back!!!!....Spring session starts April 2, 2023 at the O'Fallon Park YMCA, 4343 W. Florissant, St. Louis, MO 63107.

We look forward to working with Desiree Williams, Community Health Program Manager, for the Gateway Region YMCA, and her staff. They will administer the most important activity in our league. Safely screening our league for the early detection of hypertension.

Players & coaches...sign up now so we can complete the game schedule for this session!!! We also want to welcome to the fold, our second city for Hoopn' for Hearts, Belleville, Illinois. East Bellevile YMCA will host our 2nd league!!!

January 22, 2023: Congratulations to Ball So Hard!! They were the the first regular season champion to go undeafeated. They then topped off the session by winning their 2nd title as Ball So Hard.

Shouts also go out to their opponent, team Venom. This relatively young group of guys fought hard, played well enough to win, but just couldn't overcome the experience of Ball so Hard. A well played game, at a high level, and very entertaining.

Thanx again to all the guys who played this session, and paying attention to the dangers of hypertension. Thanx for being mature young men who love competing and playing the game the right way!!!

Thanx to the staff at Hoopn' for Hearts, the O'fallon Park YMCA, our officials, our sponsors, and everyone who came out to support these young men, as we learn about the triggers for hyperension and what we can do to prevent them.

And then there were two!!

Two former Hoopn' for Hearts champions will meet Sunday, Jan. 22nd @ 11a to decide which one will become a two-time champ!!

Team Venom beat a strong team Silverbacks in the semi's to advance to the title game. A very competitive game, that was a classic game of runs! Venom made the last run, and was able to get the W.

Regular season champ Ball So Hard handled their business and advanced by beating Bye You University. Ball So Hard took control early and left no doubt that they would compete for the title.

Sunday's game is youth (Venom) vs. experience (Ball So Hard). Will the younger team overcome a seasoned veteran squad? Or will the experience show up and fight off the young bulls?

January 8, 2023

Great games today. Eight teams started on the road to the championship, four teams remain.

With a fantastic finish, the #2 seed and defending champion, team Mo' Fallon took on the #7 seed and former champion, team Venom. A very close game throughout, both teams were going at it! In the target score frame, Mo'fallon took a two point lead, 50-48 with the winner needing to score 51. Immediately after that Mo'Fallon lay up, Venom pushed it up court and hit a long range three to win the game 51-50 to advance....fantastic finish!!

In another tight one, #4 Bye You University was able to hold off last sessions runner up, the #5 seed, team Easy Money. Ex*****on down the stretch was key as Easy Money missed two crucial layups & key free throws in the target score frame that would have given them the upper hand. Nevertheless, Bye You knocked down their free throws and advanced.

The #3 seed, team Silverbacks, came out on fire & pretty much won the game in the 1st 12mins as they jumped out to a 30-6 lead, and never looked back. The hole was too deep for the game #6 seed, team Wellston to get out of. Silverbacks advance to face #7 Venom in the semis.

A new team... #8 Reason 2 Doubt put up a solid effort against the #1 seed Ball So Hard. A competitive game that was filled with solid play on both squads. Ball so Hard advances to take on the #3 seed Bye You University.

Great action today, and no doubt greater action to come in the semis...meet us at O'fallon Park YMCA next Sunday...January 15th @ 10a.
