HR Bill 5332 Protecting Your Credit Score Act of 2019

This bill passed Congress yesterday by a vote of 234-179 and is now moving to the Senate.

Summary:

Consumers will receive a free credit "score" when obtaining a free annual credit report.

Bill gives CFPB regulatory authority for supervising the credit bureaus

Bill requires the establishment of a CFPB ombudsman to resolve persistent errors by CRAs among other things

Bill gives the CFPB the authority to establish data security requirements for the bureaus

Allows courts to award injunctive relief to compel bureaus to comply.

CRAs must establish a central portal to allow consumers access to free reports and scores, dispute errors, and place and lift security freezes.

Would require CRA's to disclose not just inquiries to consumers but also the purpose for said inquiries.
