Let us never forget 49 year old Thomas Kelly of Engine Company 14 who died on this day 1899. Upon returning to the firehouse after a fire at an asphalt building firefighter Kelly drank out of a glass sitting on the kitchen table then fell ill. He was sent home and a doctor was called in and he kept insisting he was poisoned from the glass on the table. His autopsy later revealed he drank poison which was probably meant for the night watchman at the firehouse and not firefighter Kelly. Firefighter Kelly is survived by his 2 sons Thomas and William whom also became St.Louis Firefighters.
