James A. Williams for Central Region Board

James A. Williams for Central Region Board AEA member since 1985. My career has been built on fighting to give a platform to the voiceless. James A. I am a 38-year member and I owe our Union a lot.

Williams (Us/We/Ours): 4 years ago, I was encouraged to “Get Back Involved” with AEA, I believed then as I do now: Every member deserves to be heard, listened to and represented. I believe that can happen by creating a clear, concise communication strategy between membership, leadership and staff that is reflective of differing regional needs. Most of all I owe it my best efforts to help shape its

future. In the following months, I was elected a delegate to our first convention. In the time leading up to that historic event, I helped create a Central Region wide membership listening tour. That’s where I learned “We are not all in the same boat. We are in the same storm. Some are in yachts, some in canoes and some are drowning”. Since then I’ve become Co-Chair of The BIPOC Community Group, A member of the In Memorandum Working Group and served on 4 contract negotiation teams. We need a lot but most of all, we need to learn to listen to each other. We must remember, we represent everyone including those not in the room. That’s my obligation and my commitment. Please support me with your vote so I can continue to support you. (if you're curious about my pronouns reach-out and I'm happy to talk about them)

Why am I running now?

Many of us forging careers outside of major markets feel swept along with the tide, underrepresented. We are part of the backbone of this Union and deserve a voice. I will give my all to be that voice. I believe in equity and inclusion. I believe in a Fair Wage. I understand that coming out of our current situation our industry and artform will never be the same. However we cannot lose any of the ground our predecessors fought so hard to achieve. How we move forward is important but we cannot sacrifice our personal safety. Before I get too long winded let me answer the anticipated question: What can I do to help?

1) If you're AEA I need your vote. if you have more questions about what I think, or want to tell me what's on your mind, reach out to me. I will listen. 2) If you're Non-Equity, reach out. Let's talk honestly about the pluses and minuses of union membership 3) If you are a fellow theater artist, designer, or crew that knows me, please share this with AEA members you know. I NEED YOUR SUPPORT!
