WOW! What an exceptional presentation by Cindy Haeffner on Sunday! Cindy shared a beautiful array of stunning flowers, trees, and ground covers growing on her farm as “companions” to her thousands of daffodils.

Inspired by her mentor, Dr. John Reed, Cindy began hybridizing daffodils and registered her first cultivar, “Cindy’s Joy,” in 2021 — named after her husband, Joy! ❤️

Did you know, her farm is so well-known that the 2016 World Daffodil Tour arrived with four buses of enthusiasts to tour her daffodils in full bloom?

A huge thank you to Gary Knehans for encouraging Cindy to join GSLDS. We’re so glad you did, Cindy!

Deep in the beautiful, rolling hills surrounding Hermann, MO, down a quiet gravel road, lies the idyllic Haeffner Family Farm. Yesterday, GSLDS members gathered there to clean, bag, and tag daffodil bulbs in preparation for our upcoming bulb sale in September. Afterwards, we enjoyed a bountiful potluck. A heartfelt thank you to Cindy and Joy for their gracious hospitality!

There’s just something about a farm—the peaceful surroundings, the beauty of the land, and the simple joy of working together—that refreshes the soul.

This past Sunday, July 26, we welcomed St. Louis Master Gardener Andy Schiefelbein for an engaging presentation, “Seeds to Harvest.”

Andy shared the story of transforming his south St. Louis backyard into a thriving vegetable and herb garden. From the books and resources that inspired him, to the tools he relies on, and even his dream of one day owning a piece of farmland, his journey was both informative and inspiring. We are grateful that he took the time to share his knowledge and passion with us.

And speaking of sharing, our treasurer, Peter, treated everyone to an abundance of homegrown tomatoes to take home and enjoy! 🍅 Their delicious flavor brought back cherished memories of tomatoes grown in our childhood family gardens.

Thank you to Andy and Peter for making our summer meeting such a memorable one!

That’s a wrap on this year’s Greater St. Louis Daffodil Society Show! 🌼

While the in-person experience is packed away again until next year, there are still many wonderful memories and photos from this year’s successful show to share. We’ll be posting more in the days ahead, along with updates about upcoming events here on our page.

In the meantime, we want to extend our sincere thanks to our dedicated judges, members, volunteers, and our wonderful partners at St. Louis County Library. Your talent, time, and commitment make this all possible and help us share not only the beauty of daffodils, but also a little inspiration with everyone.

Thank you for being part of it with us. More blooms and more events to come! 💛
