Hello everyone! As this next semester unfolds, I wanted to remind people that the UMSL-BJC nurse externship application for the summer of 2021 is due on January 25th. This is an amazing opportunity that allows you to step into the role of a nurse, with guidance from a preceptor. As someone who has completed the UMSL-BJC externship, I can say it is an amazing program to get hands-on clinical experience. Stepping into the role of a nurse upon graduating can be daunting, but this externship will increase your confidence in the clinical setting and truly set you up for success! Some of the things you will see and do during this externship you will never encounter during clinicals. BJC cares for a diverse patient population with patients from all over the world that come to Barnes for care. Since completing this externship, I have had the opportunity of taking care of fresh heart & lung transplants in the intensive care unit, patients in respiratory failure, patients requiring invasive devices, and the list goes on. Participating in this externship has given me a newfound confidence I never knew was possible as a nursing student. Comment any questions you have below and I will answer them! :)

During this thanksgiving season we want to thank all of you for sticking with this club and nursing community throughout these strange times. Be it making donations (check out on instagram), volunteering remotely, or attending our zoom meetings we appreciate that you’ve joined us in this nursing group where we’re all trying to survive and support each other. Much love for you all. Feel free to comment what you’re thankful for!!

Nurse & Patient Advocate, Blake (Nurse Blake), is coming to speak to SNA! Yes, you heard that right- The Nurse Blake is coming to speak to us. The event will only be 30 minutes long. Blake is going to begin with a 15-minute introduction about his story and then will open for questions in the last 15 minutes. So, come with questions for Blake!

If you attend this event, this will make-up for a previous missed meeting (October or September). This will wave both the code word and volunteer hour for the missed meeting.

* Has beginning videos on how to do a head to toe assessment--- this is really my go to girl when I don’t understand a concept
* Has quizzes you can take on her website at the end of each 20 minute video that are helpful for studying

Osmosis
* Has videos outlining specific conditions such as AIDs and COVID
* Helpful for care-plans and understanding diagnoses brought up in pathophysiology, health assessment, psych, and med surg
* Great for visual learners

Simple Nursing
* These remind me a lot of John Greens crash courses except for nursing

We hope to see everyone tonight for our trivia night! Anyone is welcome to come!!

Those who participate in the trivia will receive the credit for the remaining volunteer/shadow hours they have left for the semester. If you are unable to make it and are unable to fulfill the rest of these hours, but have completed everything else, email us and let us know.

Reminder that all requirements need to be met by May 1st. This is important so we can get names sent out to faculty for you all to receive your extra credit that you've worked so hard for this semester.
