A Little Note About Fostering
When we put out a call for fosters, it’s because a dog needs us—and we need someone willing to open their home and help.
We are incredibly grateful for everyone who offers to foster. But we also want to explain something that is sometimes difficult to say: the more parameters placed around a foster offer, the harder it can be for us to actually use that help.
“I can foster, but only if…”
• They’re under a certain age
• They’re a certain size
• They’re completely housebroken
• They don’t need medication
• They get along with every dog
• They can be left alone all day
• They don’t have any behavioral or medical challenges
We completely understand that every home has limitations, and some restrictions are absolutely necessary—especially when it comes to children, other pets, work schedules, or safety.
But rescue dogs rarely arrive with perfect circumstances.
Sometimes they’re older. Sometimes they need medication. Sometimes they have accidents. Sometimes we’re still learning about them. And sometimes the dog who desperately needs a foster isn’t the “easy” dog everyone hoped for. And more often than not, we simply do not know the answers to many questions about them until we bring them into foster care and evaluate them.
When we ask for fosters, what we need most are people who genuinely want to help a dog in need and who can be as flexible as their household safely allows.
The more flexible our foster homes are, the more dogs we can say YES to.
Fostering isn’t always convenient or perfect—but for the dog who gets a safe place to land, it can mean absolutely everything.
