In every yard, there are two women.
Fate, it seems, loves to make them neighbors.

The first one carries warmth inside her.
In her hands — a small bag of cat food, bought with what’s left of her pension.
In her pockets — crumbs for the birds.
And in her heart — a shelter for all lost souls.
She knows each kitten by name,
covers them with pieces of cardboard,
lays down soft rags like blankets for children.
Her umbrella is bent and old,
her shoes are soaked,
but she still walks — through rain, through cold, through tiredness.
Because if not her — then who?

And there’s another woman.
Her hands are soft, her home smells like soap and order,
and she finds every trace of suffering unnecessary.
The meowing under her windows annoys her,
as does the smell of the basement and the kindness of others,
that quietly reminds her — she still has a heart.

She doesn’t want to see the dirt, the fleas, or the pain.
She wants everything to look as if it doesn’t exist.
Neat. Silent. Comfortable.

And so, they live next to each other.
One — quietly doing good, never asking for thanks.
The other — loudly complaining about how tired she is of it all.

But the world doesn’t survive on complaints.
It stands because of those who stay,
who warm small, cold paws,
who share their bread,
who don’t turn away.

As long as one old woman holds a bag of food close to her chest —
there is still hope for this world.
As long as someone whispers, “Hold on, little one, we’ll get through this” —
hope never dies.

🕯 You can wash away dirt with water.
But not indifference.

WHICH ONE ARE YOU???
