GLADE Academy (sponsored by the Greater Ozarks Audubon Society) returns to the field station. Sixteen youth from southern Missouri come for a week of learning and fun in the outdoors. Today was bird banding.

Interesting article about Dr. Jay McEntee’s research. His graduate student, Zach, worked on this project. Zach also helped us with our bird banding study this summer.

Missouri is home to hundreds of songbirds — big and small, brightly-colored and unassuming — but Bewick’s wrens are particularly special.

Last Thursday, we spread a wildflower seed mix and covered with landscaping jute. Did you ever try to drive stakes into the “soil” in the Ozarks. Thanks to several Master Naturalists and MSU Grounds for the help. Also, thanks to Branco for the topsoil to cover the rocks. 🙂
