Tomorrow, June 1st, my soul cat, Petey, would have turned 11 years old.
Instead, tomorrow marks another birthday that I have to celebrate without him.
Petey lost his battle with large cell lymphoma in 2024. From his first symptoms, to testing, to the devastating diagnosis that came far too late, his journey was one of the most traumatic experiences I've ever gone through. We tried everything we could, even when the odds were stacked against us, because that's what you do when someone you love is fighting for their life.
Petey wasn't "just a cat." He was my heart and soul. He is the reason our 501(c)(3) carries his name, and he remains the driving force behind everything I do today.
While Petey inspired the rescue, Grandma Crinkles and Sofie opened my heart to senior cats. They showed me how deeply special these older souls are, and why they deserve someone willing to fight for them. Seniors are so often the forgotten ones—the ones left behind, overlooked, passed over, and deemed "too old." Many shelters simply don't have the resources or time to take a chance on them.
But, I do. And I will continue to as long as I can- with all of your help.
Right now, our rescue account is dangerously close to falling below what I consider our "safety cushion." I recently purchased several bags of kibble and litter to keep everyone supplied, and on June 22nd we have an estimated $500-$600 in veterinary expenses coming up for Uncle Vinny, Penny, and Piper. After that, Jack, Donkey, and Biscuit are next in line for their routine senior wellness care.
Every single senior in our care deserves the very best. As cats age, chronic illnesses become more common, and these routine diagnostics allow me to catch problems early and intervene before they become crises. Preventive care and maintenance gives them the best chance at living comfortable, happy lives, in their golden years with us.
I know times are hard for so many people right now. They're hard for us too. Sometimes I still stare at the gas pump in disbelief when it costs $70 just to fill my tank.
But tomorrow, in honor of Petey's 11th birthday, I'm asking for your help.
If Petey's story, our mission, or any of the cats we've shared over the years have touched your heart, please consider donating $11 in honor of what would have been his 11th birthday. And if $11 isn't possible, please know that even $1 makes a difference.
Imagine if every single follower donated just one dollar. The impact would be incredible. The number of senior cats we could help would be life changing.
No donation is too small and sharing this post helps just as much.
I am endlessly grateful for the community we've built together. I may not always be able to respond immediately, and some days feel impossibly full, but I see your comments. I read your messages. I see the love you pour into my cats, my posts, and I appreciate every single one of you more than you'll ever know.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for believing that senior cats matter.
And to my sweet Petesworth:
Happy Birthday, my boy. I think about you every single day. I miss you more than words could ever express. Thank you for choosing me to be your human during your time on this earth. I would give anything for one more tripod snuggle over my shoulder and one more moment with you tucked safely against me.
There will never be another you.
You are forever loved, forever missed, and forever the heart behind this rescue.
❤️
Please enjoy some older photos of my boy.
