Over the last sixty plus years, Spotsylvania County and its residents have benefited greatly from the efforts of the Spotsylvania County Woman's Club. In the early years, the club was instrumental in getting a bank established at the Courthouse, securing a doctor for the county, assisting in the formation of the Rescue Squad, starting the Bloodmobile in the County, assisting in the establishment o
f a regional library in Fredericksburg for the city and five surrounding counties, helping to get a lighted athletic field at Spotsylvania High School, establishing a clothes closet, establishing a Senior Citizens Organization, starting a blood pressure clinic and organizing the Spotsylvania Literacy Council. Through the efforts of the members of the SCWC and its numerous fund-raising activities, the Club has been able to donate food and clothing to needy families, purchase items for donations to Mary Washington Hospital, Western State Hospital, Spotsylvania County Health Dept. Scholarships are awarded annually to graduating county students. Financial assistance is also given to children in county programs in honor of founding member Agnes McGee.
