Just 10 months after the worst wildfire in Washington state history, the legislature is looking at cutting the firefighting budget. The commissioner of public lands told more money is needed, not less, to attack fires before they turn into a another natural disaster.

The Department of Natural Resources is asking for extra money to ensure quick attacks against wildfires when they are small and to focus on reducing fire risks in the remaining forests.
