The Spartanburg Pride Coalition is inviting community members to help shape the future of Pride in Spartanburg County. We’ve launched a short community survey, open through March 31, to gather feedback that will guide the planning of a future Pride event and help us better understand what the LGBTQ+ community and allies want to see, experience, and build together.

The Spartanburg Pride Coalition is a partnership of local organizations and community leaders working to strengthen visibility, connection, and support for LGBTQ+ residents in Spartanburg County. Founding partners include Proud Mary, Piedmont Care, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Spartanburg, Uplift Outreach Center, PFLAG Spartanburg, Free Mom Hugs of South Carolina, Fernwood Baptist Church, LGBTQ Theologies, and Speaking Down Barriers.

We want to share a quick update on what’s happening behind the scenes around Pride in Spartanburg 🌈

Yesterday, several LGBTQIA+ serving organizations came together to formally build the Spartanburg Pride Coalition. The goal is simple but important: strengthen collaboration, improve communication, and work together to explore building a Pride event rooted in what our community actually wants.

The coalition will serve as a steering committee to help guide this process. Current members include:

• Proud Mary
• Piedmont Care
• Unitarian Universalist Church of Spartanburg
• Uplift Outreach Center
• PFLAG Spartanburg
• Free Mom Hugs of South Carolina
• Fernwood Baptist Church
• LGBTQ Theologies

This is just the beginning. Our larger goal is to plan a Pride event or festival in Spartanburg that reflects the voices, needs, and creativity of the community. We hope we can all make this possible !

To make sure this is community-led, we are developing a public survey to gather feedback on what Pride should look like, what matters most to you, and how you’d like to be involved. We’ll be sharing that very soon. We are also looking into funding this new initiative.

We’re committed to transparency and collaboration as this moves forward. The coalition will be meeting every two weeks as we build this intentionally and sustainably.

Thank you all for joining this page. As you know, we have inclement weather headed our way, and right now we’re prioritizing safety and preparation.

We’ll be back very soon to begin this conversation together as a community. We want to be clear that this page is not intended to be used against any organization in the Upstate or beyond. Its sole purpose is to explore the possibility of creating something new in Spartanburg that is inclusive and welcoming for all.

We’ve been hearing the question more and more: What would it take to create a Spartanburg Pride? So we want to start where it matters most, with the people.

This is an open call to gather folx who are interested in dreaming, planning, and exploring what a Pride event in Spartanburg could look like. No promises yet, no fixed timeline. Just community, curiosity, and conversation.
