Just in case you missed it, Private K-12 Schools in Wisconsin are poised to receive a $1,100 - $2,948 windfall while the rest of us have to make due with a $325 increase in per pupil funding at our Public Schools.

My values lie with the students and families in my community. I wish I could say the same for the majority of our lawmakers in Madison.

Gov. Evers has promised to sign the bill, which has been called the "largest expansion" of the voucher program

With three school-aged children, I have skin in the game. As a member of the South Milwaukee School Board I will work to ensure that all students in South Milwaukee receive a quality education.

It starts with ensuring safe, inclusive learning environments, free from bullying.

It means allowing teachers to teach to the student, not the test.

It requires providing emotional learning and mental health support.

It means listening to all stakeholders, including students, families, educators, paraprofessionals, support staff and community members.

It means partnering with universities, tech schools and industry leaders.

It’s about coming together as a community.

I'm looking forward to the challenge.

Forced to "drink poison from the State."

A literal quote from tonight’s South Milwaukee School Board meeting from a veteran Board member describing the gut wrenching decisions the District is having to make in the 2023-24 preliminary budget.

Our School District starves while our State Joint Finance Committee sits on $7.1 billion in surplus of our tax dollars. This revenue was raised for public services, but there’s no indication that it will flow back into our communities. Instead, our district is forced to reduce staff, eliminate courses and consider cutting programs designed to reach students in need.

We are being forced to eliminate opportunities for our students.

The State is only going to get its act together and do the right thing if the community bands together and says enough is enough. And, whether I’m sitting on the School Board next month or not, I’m planning on doing my part to unify stakeholders, engage the community, and advocate for change.

Our students deserve better than what they've been getting from the State.
