The 826 Foundation is a nonprofit organization serving the greater Columbus, Ohio area. The Foundation was established to provide mentoring and community outreach services to young women ages 8-21. The foundation will form strategic partnerships with local school districts, other nonprofit and community based organizations to identify potential mentee candidates that can benefit from the organizations programs. The Foundation is committed to working with young women of all socio-economic backgrounds to encourage, equip, empower and educate them by providing them with personal and professional skills that will enable them to succeed in all facets of life. In addition, we will provide them with opportunities to get engaged in their community and give back and help others while also helping themselves.
Studies have shown that people of all ages can and have benefited from having positive mentors and role models at some point in their growth and development. Similarly, those that have not been exposed to such positive influences sometimes have difficulty in adjusting and becoming acclimated in certain environments. It is our goal to change this for young women in Columbus, Ohio and surrounding areas. To accomplish this goal, young women must be in a nurturing and encouraging learning environment that will allow them to strive to be their best in and outside of the classroom. It is one of our goals to provide them with such an environment.
The 826 Foundation was founded in direct response to the need for mentors in our target market area. Working alongside other community based partners and school districts we will be their ancillary change advocate and fill the gaps in educating young women in areas they may not be exposed to in their traditional educational environment.
We will match all young women with pre-screened mentors for a minimum of one academic semester and track their progress and development throughout that time. We want to hold the mentee, mentor and ourselves fully accountable for changing the lives of the young women we work with. We will also utilize the program data to make improvements as the program grows as well as to show and encourage the participants regarding their progress.
