Know Your Town of South Hadley, MA KYT is a nonpartisan organization that seeks to acquaint townspeople with the resources the town has to offer and functions of town government.

Know Your Town of South Hadley, Massachusetts offers an opportunity to meet neighbors and make new friends, to learn more about the town, and to share in supporting our community and its citizens. Newcomers to South Hadley are always welcomed. Members are encouraged to help develop ideas, and plan and promote programs and activities which address the needs of South Hadley’s residents and provide i

nformation about our community. Founded in 1947 by Margaret Saunders, Know Your Town (KYT) is a nonpartisan organization that seeks to acquaint townspeople with the resources the town has to offer and the various issues and functions of town government. KYT works to assist in any way possible the progressive development of South Hadley. Fields of special interest include education, recreation, public health, mental health, town planning, registration and elections, and state legislation affecting our town. Candidates’ Nights and issue forums are one of the major services provided by KYT. Held before local, state, and national elections to familiarize citizens with candidates and ballot questions, the events are also broadcast on local cable Channel 15. In addition, Know Your Town has been instrumental in developing a Town Meeting Guide for Town Meeting members. Know Your Town also sponsors the Ann Battersby Scholarship, awarded annually to a promising local high school student. Scholarship donations are always welcome. Events are held at locations throughout town, providing a unique forum for visiting and learning about community resources, businesses, and places of interest. KYT information and education programs are free of charge, and open to the public. Additional special events and social programs, such as our annual legislative review and progressive dinner, are available to members.

Thursday, February 27, 7 PM, Town Hall Auditorium, Candidates' Night for Candidates for South Hadley board positions.

* Ray Hershel, television broadcast journalist will moderate the program.
* KYT member Liz Austin will serve as the announcer/opener/closer.

Know Your Town is sponsoring a Candidates' Night for candidates for major local offices. Candidates
will present a three minute opening statement and then answer written or oral questions from the audience.
Refreshments will be served. This is an excellent opportunity to meet, greet, and ask questions of the candidates.

Please plan to attend! Bring a friend!

We thank Linda Young for having designed and coordinated the Know Your Town retirement party for Representative John Scibak. We also thank the many volunteers who donated their time to prepare food, bake a beautiful cake, provide beverages, and help decorate the hall. Special thanks to businesses and individuals who donated goods, the South Hadley High School saxaphonists who performed, and the two culinary students who assisted with serving the refreshments. Know Your Town of South Hadley, MA is sponsoring an evening of discussion and questions with the new South Hadley Electric Light Department's General Manger, Sean Fitzgerald.

Some of the topics Mr. Fitzgerald may cover a​re:
​Fiber optics, solar energy, electric rates, and the future of the SHELD-owned land on Old Lyman Road.

Refreshments will be served. The program is free and open to the public.

KYT member Bobbie Stein Salthouse will be one of the featured artists this evening, July 6th, at a reception from 5-8 pm at the Hope & Feathers Framing and Printing, 319 Main Street, Amherst MA.

​Bobbie is one of four artists "Connecting Through Nature." Her work this evening is entitled Mixed Media/Assemblages.​

​The event is free and open to the public, so come meet the artist and see some great art!
