Week two of summer camp at Camp Dean has officially gone by in a flash! ⚡️🌲

Our campers spent the week exploring how technology shapes our camp experience—both old and new! They wove their own accessories, programmed Sphero Bots for the Robot Olympics, built mini robots out of cork, and even learned all about the history of the 1927 Electrician badge! 🤖⚙️🎨 Plus, everyone got creative making custom camp shirts using tie-dye and screen-printing our official logo! 👕🌈

Meanwhile, our Adventurers have been incredibly busy! 🗺️✨ They started with an overnight campout at Camp McCormick, conquered the New Horizons High Ropes course, and practiced their aim with air rifles. ⛺️🧗‍♀️🎯 Then, they enjoyed a scenic trail ride on horseback, performed an original skit for our closing campfire, and wrapped up their journey with a relaxing 3-mile float down the DuPage River! 🐴🔥🛶

We had the absolute best time during Week 2. Let's get creative for Week Three! 🙌🎨✨

Savanna and Zoey’s project focused on enhancing the experience at Mary Ann Beebe Center by creating safe, welcoming seating for girls and adults. Recognizing the need for comfortable places to rest—especially during busy, hot camp days—they set out to build sturdy, long-lasting benches that would improve both safety and enjoyment for all visitors.

Working as a team, they collaborated with camp leadership to identify needs, organized donations, and selected durable materials designed to withstand outdoor conditions. They thoughtfully designed each bench to be both functional and fun, incorporating bright colors and Girl Scout-inspired decorations to make the space more inviting for younger campers.

Together, Savanna and Zoey successfully built and decorated four benches, which were delivered to the camp in November 2025. They also ensured the longevity of their project by coordinating proper storage plans with the camp ranger and sharing information about the new seating with the wider Girl Scout community.

Throughout the process, both girls demonstrated strong leadership, teamwork, and initiative. They developed practical skills such as reading blueprints, using tools, and managing a hands-on project from start to finish. Just as importantly, they grew in confidence, decision-making, and communication. Their project leaves a lasting impact on the camp, providing a safe and cheerful space for visitors while showcasing their dedication to service and community improvement.
