Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges—whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. To join us, volunteer, reconnect, or donate, visit www.girlscoutsni.org. We serve 16 counties including parts or all of Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, LaSalle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago. Troop 447 spread their wings with an incredible Bronze Award project focused on giving birds and bats a safe place to call home at the Mary Ann Beebe Center! After learning about the importance of nesting spaces, the girls put their skills to work by building birdhouses and a bat house. They discovered that bats are more than just fascinating nighttime flyers—they’re also natural mosquito eaters! Knowing how many mosquitoes they encounter at day camp, the girls hoped their bat house would encourage more bats to make camp their home and help keep those pesky mosquitoes under control.

The girls began their project in August 2025 and proudly completed it in May 2026. From learning about wildlife to building with their own hands, Troop 447 turned a simple idea into a project that can make a lasting difference for both campers and local wildlife.
