i finished nineteen years racing, twelve of those were cyclocross. i don’t think this was the worst cx season ever, but it definitely felt like the most disappointing in a long time. a lot of recent posts here are about sending e-mails and managing races, and that’s probably a good indicator on how i’ve approached my training 🙃

i don’t like this feeling. it’s important to be positive and find the joy in things that isn’t just racing, but if it matters then it’s OK to treat it like it matters. ambivalence is a good shield from self criticism. it’s a poor motivator for growth. i got some good plans brewing to make next year better, and i’m excited about being more intentional and less ambivalent. it’s been a minute since i’ve felt this excited about being hungry ⚔️🐺

you get one bottle post race to celebrate or despair about a race. then it’s back to the process. they’ll be more fun training posts here as we get to it!

wrapped up the announcing season at . twenty six events this year that i got to announce at, race direct, or support in some significant way that i woke up monday afterwards sore and beat

after getting to announce the 20th edition of Shreddpark CX, i went to go see an improv musical with a friend. somehow that perfectly encapsulates what this year has been like, with all of it’s highlights and curve balls. shinier posts with many words later, but for now:

Thank you. Thank you, thank you 🖤

a year ago (yes within three days to the year) i got the call from asking if i would be willing to sign onto . i said yes, having no idea how it would shake out but why not. john’s vision sounds grand and if it wasn’t done everyone would be another year older if it was put off. and no one is promised tomorrow. you gotta capture it (or just let it slip)
🎤
a year later, ten races later, a thousand special stories later, and we don’t have to wonder anymore. new england bike racing has a lot of great people. a year from now, all i want is for more people to know how awesome john and the racedayxc family are. new england bike racing is very fortunate to have john’s series. however much you can, i hope you can join for at least one race next year. if you did this year, please be sure to tell john what the series means for you
🖤

once a year it’s nice to get in the full experience: full gas bike racing, rad people on a rad course, party time for a full weekend. i’d love to do it every fall weekend but you can swipe through and see how my back bones feel about that

we only have so much time and space to use: thank you for choosing to use yours to make a really fun bike race extravaganza 🖤 especially thank you to for making the best of a weekend

my name is benjamin kramer 🎤 i talk so much the tech centers i’ve worked at have considered new operating hours 24/7. the number of champions and race events i’ve helped is more than most athletes do in their entire career. i’ve been putting on a number to race since 2000 and after what i will safely estimate to be a thousand career starts i’m still the most excited man on the start line
✨👻🌈
i have (somehow) put this together into the best possible career that feeds the soul and i’m grateful for it in every way. if you want me at your event, drop me an e-mail at benjamin dot allen dot kramer at gee mail dot com 😎

you can’t beat a mountain. you can’t claim it. you can try get to close enough to experience a rare connection to it, and it’s now three years i’ve gotten to watch people flock to my home state for that chance. i’ve seen enough excited racers to maybe even consider racing uphill, and i’m very grateful for and for having me on board to make a lot of riders happy
😎🫡
you’re welcome for arranging the best possible weather- arlon and lisa put in a good word to mother nature as a special request 😉 see everyone at elevation next summer!

did my last for the year, nineteen years and counting 🖤 so far my personal racing took a backseat to event directing and announcing and job hunting. the latter definitely breaking my back. you are not your job but man does that hit different when you’re applying for jobs
😅⌨️
that’s also amusing, as for the longest time i viewed my ‘dream job’ as being paid to journeyman amateur bike race. i got paid, more than most faux pros these days, and i thought that’s all i ever wanted. somewhere along the way i ended up filling up both my wallet and soul even moreso by helping out at these events. there’s something about making a rider’s day that pedaling in earnest never does and keeps me coming back. and now more than ever do those events help keep more anchored
⚓️🫡
we’re eleven weekends of events into the year and more to go and but is here. they’ll be one more announcer/director post to cap off this amazing summer, but now we head north. see everyone at ! 🏔️

the zenith of the (road bike racing) year for me is always the bike race. hot tricky course and conditions, lime rickeys, and a long standing new england tradition. born out of a dad and daughter’s simple wish to have the best bike race at hone, raised by to be the best single day pro monument experience
🦪🚴🏽🍋‍🟩
i don’t have anything special this year to say about my performance- in this space i want to say it fills my cup so much to line up and see friends and first timers give cleaves street a go. and thank you, to everyone that shows up to make the bike race great
🖤
it’s been a weird year and we’re getting in naps when we can especially because now we can say until next time, Yarmouth 😘🫡

new england mountain bike racing is better than i could have imagined. based new england hardos, slick operations, all shaken and poured over . i just don’t understand how figured out in advance to brew that exact mood into their IPA for race day. must be the new brewery spot they opened up right down the road 😉

back to back weekends (see y’all at crow hill!) make it hard for longer posts and thanks yous, yet they’re still important. Thank you, John Jill and everyone, and extra special thanks to for the memories and the racers making these memories possible. officially the first time i bought race pics of others because it’s so cool to be there 😎

Sometime in the next week I’ll do a proper write up (like ten long captions worth) blog post about the twelve months run in being road coordinator and 2025 spring race director for the and what it means to me. In this space, here’s one small story I want to share

catches this exact moment at that I explain to the ECCC racer crowd that thirteen years ago my predecessor Joe Kopena told our start line BE SMART BE SAFE BE FAST and I really did think he was the coolest and one day I’d want to do his job. And how I got overwhelmed at thinking that holy s**t I what a gift thirteen years in the making

You tell bike racers all the time that the race itself is the reward and the opportunity to tell the story you want. I’m forever grateful to Flyyn, Luke, Meesha, Alan, and Juli for letting me do that as race director. Thank you. Thank you, thank you

To all the collegiate racers that got to tell their stories, through racing and everything else, well done. It really is a treat to watch it all play out 🖤 Spring racing is done, see you at the next one
