Talking to someone who is blind doesn’t require special language just a little awareness and respect.
Here are a few simple tips:
1. Speak directly to the person, not the person they’re with
2. Use normal language phrases like “see” or “look” are completely fine
3. Identify yourself when approaching so they know who’s there
4. Be specific when giving directions (avoid “over there” or “right here”)
5. If offering help, ask first don’t assume
Small changes in how we communicate can make a big difference in someone’s independence.
