This is a huge ask in a very short amount of time, but Foster Fur Love is in desperate need of a safe, reliable vehicle to continue helping animals in need.

Our current vehicle is on its last leg. The transmission is failing, it has no air conditioning, and it simply isn’t large enough to safely transport the dogs, cats, and other animals that rely on us.

After weeks of searching, we’ve found a cargo van in Paw Paw, Michigan that could be the answer. We are scheduled to test drive it THIS Wednesday and, paws crossed, bring it home!

This van would help us:
🐶 Transport dogs to and from veterinary appointments
🐱 Move animals safely between fosters and adoption events
🐾 Pull animals from overcrowded shelters and emergency situations
🏠 Deliver supplies to foster homes
❤️ Continue saving lives throughout our community

Last week, had an adoption that caught me completely by surprise.

Dogs come and go, and after a while, you find yourself giving the same rescue speech so many times it almost becomes robotic. A couple stopped by our table and held one of the dogs. They would quietly talk amongst themselves, come ask a few questions, then step away to discuss things privately before coming back again.

Eventually, they returned and asked what they needed to do to adopt.

Once everything was approved and the paperwork was completed, they excitedly walked away with their dog. The wife came back a few times afterward with fantastic questions about training, treats, crates, and all the things that make us feel confident we've found a great match for one of our dogs.

Then she came back one last time.

She said, “I have to tell you, I had no idea how much this meant to my husband.”

She explained that they had always had breeder dogs. Those dogs had passed away, and now that they were empty nesters, she had been wanting another dog for over a year. Her husband was always the one saying no.

They weren't even there looking for a dog. They had come to buy a fish filter.

Then her husband noticed our adoption event and said, “Look, they have dogs for adoption.”

She said she was completely caught off guard by his interest, and even more surprised when he was fully on board with adopting.

Then she told me something I'll never forget.

When they walked away with their new puppy, her husband said, “That girl saved that dog's life.”

I don't know why, but hearing it put that way hit differently. Maybe because it came from someone outside of rescue. Someone seeing it from a completely different perspective.

I told her, “No, they saved his life. They're giving him a safe place to land forever.”

I doubt the couple will remember that conversation, but I will forever.

Rescue is hard. Really, REALLY hard.

It's heartbreaking, exhausting, frustrating, and overwhelming more often than not. But every once in a while, you're given one of those fleeting moments of comfort and reassurance that reminds you why you keep going.

Those moments are priceless and a reminder that I am exactly where I'm meant to be.
