THE LAKE DARLINGS 🏖️ 🛶😻

Our caretaker Martha is a ROCKSTAR 🤘! She started trapping in 2025 as a fresh newbie and since then has trapped several in her own colony!

This weekend Martha helped another caretaker trap a whooping 1️⃣8️⃣ cats in her colony! The last two are at the vet today getting snipped and tipped 🪡✂️🥜 and there's just one hold out to get!

We asked Martha about this colony she helped trap over the weekend and she shared an amazing story about making a connection and helping someone else in need!

In Martha's words:

"I took my mom to an exercise class at the Buchanan senior center...

There was a woman (Kim) there that my mom used to work with many years ago.
Somehow we got on the topic of cats. Feral cats.

She told me she had a colony at her house that was out of control. Sick, dying, in**ed, and happy ones too. She was so upset.

I told her:

"I can help you."

That's all I said.

She started crying.Teared up.She said she has been trying to figure what to do for years how to stop this.

She believes in her heart that it was meant to be that we met up at this exercise class."

Martha went on to give us a play-by-play of trapping day and it did not disappoint. 🤣

"We started trapping at 6 am. I opened the first trap to set it and a cat walked right in so I closed the trap door behind it.
On the second trap, I opened to set the trap. Two cats walked in, and I closed the trap behind them. There were three cats wanting to go to see the vet. It did help that we had tuna, fish, sardines, and wet cat food.

We were laughing because every time we set a trap in no time the trap would snap shut behind a cat. We were supposed to be quiet, but they were just walking in and trapping themselves fast."

We had a big colony haul this week and we look forward to telling you about it later this week!

We said goodbye to one today 😿💔. Community cat Paige 🐈 was helped across the Rainbow Bridge 🌈🌉 as she was elderly and suffering. Run Free and Rest in Purrs 💤 sweet Paige . We know you were loved ❤️ and we know you are now at peace.

MEET OUR POST-OP TRAPPED CAT CARE TEAM!!!

Every Monday afternoon these three wonderful ladies, Cindy, Misty, and Nora, have got your community cats' backs 🐈‍⬛🏘️🐈! These three volunteers are an amazing asset to our Meow Mission 🏨 team ❤️!

The care they provide during that delicate post-op window when kitties are coming out of anesthesia 😺💤 and getting back to normal is critical ❤️‍🩹. And they do it with a keen eye 👁️ to each cat's well-being!

NASH 😺🌈🌉 💙💛

Last week we helped community cat Nash 🏘️🐈 cross the Rainbow Bridge 🌈🌉.

Nash 🐈 was a stray cat in the Rum Village area🏘️ who was injured earlier this summer ☀️.

He had just started to let his caretakers pet him ❤️. He looked like he had a broken toe and they feared he was sick because of it. He had stopped eating his wet food. He had disappeared for a couple days and the family feared the worst 😿🙏. He was lethargic and the family thought because he was sick, he was letting them get closer to him.

Unfortunately Nash was tested positive for FELV and FIV 💔 and had an infection through his body, likely a prolonged infection caused by his toe😿.

We decided the kindest thing to do for Nash was to end his suffering 💔and help him cross the Rainbow Bridge 🌈🌉.

We don't know much about Nash 😺 except his caretaker's family all loved and cared for him dearly 💙💛. They brought him to us and told us all about him as he rolled around and let us pet him for a bit. But it was clear that Nash was really unwell.😿. We gave him fluids and made him comfortable for the night.❤️‍🩹. We got him straight to the vet in the morning.🚗💨.

Run free, Nash 🐈💨🌈🌉. We wish it wasn't to be and we were sharing a different story about you tonight. You were loved ❤️ and will always be remembered.

Nash will have a rock 🪨 in our Community Cat Memorial Rock Garden 🏘️🐈🌱 that we are finishing. We can't wait to show you what we've created 🎨🖌️ to honor the memory of precious community cats 🏘️🐈🐈‍⬛ like Nash across Michiana ❤️.

FOR OUR COMMUNITY CAT HERO 🏘️🐈 🦸

This one's for our Founder and President, Jodi Aker.

Sunday will mark The Meow Mission's 1️⃣5️⃣th anniversary! We are also celebrating fixing 1️⃣5️⃣,0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ community cats 🐈🏘️🐈‍⬛ through our Trap-Neuter-Return program.

Jodi founded The Meow Mission 🏨 with the help of her mom ❤️. They sold their hand-made cat beds to cover the $300 filing fee for the 501c3 (nonprofit) registration.

We presented Jodi with a very special award 🏆 at Fun Fest this year. Surrounded by our volunteers, supporters, and caretakers who she's helped over the years, Jodi was presented with the COMMUNITY CAT HERO AWARD 🐈🦸🏆, recognizing her for the transformative impact she has had in this milestone achievement!
