🪶 DID YOU KNOW? INDIANA’S SANDHILL CRANE SEASON IS HERE! 🪶

Have you heard those loud, rolling calls overhead? 👀 It might be sandhill cranes on the move!

Every fall, thousands of these incredible birds travel through Indiana on their seasonal migration. Some continue south for the winter, while others may stick around longer than you’d expect!

🌾 Here are a few cool crane facts:
🪶 Sandhill cranes can have a wingspan of around 6 feet!
📣 Their distinctive calls carry over long distances.
❤️ They typically mate for life.
🌎 Wetlands are essential resting and roosting spots during migration.

Peak crane numbers at Indiana’s Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area typically occur in late November or early December, making this a spectacular time of year for wildlife lovers!

As temperatures drop, remember that wildlife depends on safe places to rest, feed, and migrate. Protecting their habitats helps keep these amazing journeys going. 💚

🚨 HELP WANTED – WE NEED A HAND! 🚨

is looking for some who has experience laying and gluing flooring and would be willing to donate their time on Sunday, November 15th!

As a nonprofit rescue, we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to help us make improvements to our facility so we can continue providing a safe environment for the animals in our care.

If you have experience installing flooring or know someone who does, PLEASE reach out!

Even if you can’t help personally, sharing this post could help us find the right person!

🐿️🤍 WILDLIFE FACT: PIEBALD SQUIRRELS! 🤍🐿️

Have you ever spotted a squirrel with beautiful white patches? Meet the piebald squirrel! ❄️

🤍 Unique Coloring: Piebald means irregular white patches mixed with their normal fur color.

🧬 Not Albino: Unlike albino squirrels, piebald squirrels have both normally pigmented fur and white patches.

✨ Uncommon Sight: Piebald squirrels are uncommon, making a sighting extra special! There’s no reliable percentage for how rare they are.

🐿️ One-of-a-Kind: Every squirrel’s pattern is different, like nature gave each one its own custom coat!

🌳 Still Wild: Their unique coloring doesn’t change the fact that they’re squirrels, doing all the normal squirrel things!

Happy Monday, ! Let’s hit the ground running this week like this guy being released!

Today starts a new week for most of the world. But in rescue, the work never really stops. The feedings still need to happen, the animals still need care, and there are always lives depending on us. ❤️🐾

Our volunteers get to go home, rest, and recharge. But our founder? Rescue is a 24/7 commitment, and she is here through it all — seven days a week, day and night, making sure the animals never go without.

We are so grateful for every volunteer who shows up, every person who gives, and especially for the woman who pours so much of herself into making all of this possible.

Rescue doesn’t run on a schedule. It runs on love, sacrifice, and people who refuse to give up on the lives counting on them. And we will never stop being thankful for the people who make it happen. ❤️

🎉 Happy National Opossum Day, ! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating some of our favorite little pink noses, naked tails, and dramatic hisses! 🩷

At , we see firsthand how much these misunderstood animals deserve kindness.

Showing their teeth may look intimidating, but a scared opossum is simply asking you to give them space.

You don’t have to love their tails to help protect them! Slow down when driving at night, give wildlife room to move along, and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator if you find one sick, injured, or orphaned.

🦝 DID YOU KNOW? RACCOONS CAN SHOW SIGNS OF INFECTION IN THEIR FEET?

Those little hands and feet do a LOT of work! Raccoons rely on their paws for climbing, digging, walking, and exploring their environment. But sometimes, their feet can tell us that something isn’t right. 🐾

Swelling, redness, open sores, discharge, limping, or favoring a paw can all be signs of an injury or infection. These issues can develop from puncture wounds, bites, foreign objects, or other underlying conditions.

And here’s why it matters: a small-looking wound can become a much bigger problem if it goes untreated. For a wild animal that depends on its feet to find food, escape danger, and survive, even one painful paw can make a huge difference.

If you see a raccoon with an injured or swollen foot, please don’t attempt to catch or treat it yourself. Keep your distance and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for guidance.

Wildlife can’t tell us when something hurts. Sometimes, we have to pay attention to the signs they’re showing us. ❤️
