Our Somers Point Police Department (Official) and our SP PAL hosted our first Sensory Friendly Trunk or Treat, on Friday, October 2nd.

In an effort to minimize the crowd to better serve our autism community members, we did not advertise this event on social media, but rather invited students who attend Dawes Avenue and Interactive Kids on New York Avenue.

Our Somers Point Police Department handed out blue envelopes and other goodies for families.

We’d love to take a moment to thank those who hosted a trunk for this event and your efforts in keeping it sensory friendly.

The Somers Point Police Department will be hosting their annual Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 25th from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM at the Shore Medical Center Parking Lot at the corner of Harbor and Bay Avenue. This is a free community policing event. Parking is available inside the lot of the event, with the entrance being Harbor Lane. Family friendly costumes are encouraged, bring your bags to collect candy and goodies! No pets allowed.

Shout out to Riya! Many may notice her from running our tennis clinics for ages 7-10, what you may not know is this we her initiative.

Riya submitted through the City of Somers Point Recreation to have a permit for use of the tennis courts on DeFeo Lane, to host clinics for ages 7-10 on Sundays, where she ideally would charge a nominal fee and give the collected registration fees to a charity.

Our director of PAL, Nick Wagner was in the meeting attendance for that Recreation Board Meeting and suggested a collaboration, where the PAL would host it with our approved volunteers, and waive a registration fee and assist her with a donation to the charity of her choice. Offering this as a free program to Somers Point Residents.

Riya is entering her Junior Year at Mainland Regional High School and has had members of the Mainland Tennis Club assist her on Sundays.
They collected rackets for children to use during the series, offsetting the cost for parents for children to try tennis.

Tonight, at this evenings Somers Point City Council Meeting, she was honored by Resolution by City Council for her volunteerism.

We are proud of the program Riya has created, and know she has a bright future ahead of her.

We are still collecting items on the list below for two events we are participating in to give directly to Somers Point students. Our collection is running through August 27th.

Week One 🎾☝️
Our Tennis Skills Clinic for ages 7-10 kicked off Sunday, August 9th for its second series hosted by members of the Mainland High School Tennis Club!

This is an excellent time for beginners, rackets and tennis balls are provided.

This a free series provided by our SP PAL, however, registration is required.

This series continues on Sundays from 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM at the DeFeo Lane Tennis Courts for August 16th, August 23rd and August 30th.

Wear sneakers, comfortable clothing and bring plenty of water!

Our Somers Point Police Department is asking for your help with our school supply drive! Please share our post to help us get the word out as our collection runs now through Wednesday, August 26th.

We participate in two events that greatly benefit Somers Point students, who could use assistance with school supplies to be better prepared going into their school year.
Any potential left over supplies we donate to the teachers for their classrooms.
