WORLD CHAMPION!!

A massive congratulations to our own Doug Pomeranz, who traveled to Niseko, Japan last week and won the UCI Gran Fondo World Championship in the 65–69 age group!

Held in Asia for the first time, this year’s Gran Fondo Worlds featured a challenging mountain course through the spectacular Hokkaido countryside, with more than 2,370 meters of climbing.

Doug lined up against a field of approximately 65 riders from around the world. An early seven-mile climb reduced the front group to just nine riders before the decisive move came with 15km remaining. On a steep 1.4-mile climb averaging 8%, Doug attacked and crested the top with roughly a 50-second advantage. From there, he soloed all the way to the finish, winning the World Championship by an incredible 1 minute, 39 seconds!

The top 3 finishers from the international field were…

🥇 Doug Pomeranz, USA — 2:18:35🥈 Alan Nelson, Australia — 2:20:14🥉 Frank Nijssen, Netherlands — 2:20:30

An extraordinary accomplishment for Doug, to just add to his already impressive list of accomplishments, and a very proud moment for our entire team. To see one of our riders standing atop a UCI World Championship podium while representing the Davis Phinney Foundation and all of our incredible sponsors on the international stage is something truly special.

Rick recently competed at the USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships in Colorado Springs and came away with an incredible three podiums in three events…..

Flying 200 / Match Sprint — Bronze (70–74 age category)
500m — Bronze (70–74 age category
Team Sprint — Bronze (65–74 age category)

Three races and three trips to the podium at a National Championship is an amazing accomplishment. We’re excited to welcome Rick as an ambassador for our team and proud to have him helping us represent and support the Davis Phinney Foundation!

Congratulations to Kenny Rogers on taking the win in the Masters 60+ 1–4 race at this weekend’s Costa Mesa Grand Prix! The event brought another exciting day of criterium racing to Orange County while serving as the final race of the Southern California bicycle racing season. A special shoutout to Michael Araluce, whose strong teamwork and support played a key role in Kenny’s victory.

In the 50+ race, Sang Vu rode to an impressive top-10 finish, with Kenny and Michael once again putting in strong rides to support the team throughout the day. The 50s also saw longtime team member Kirk “KB” Bausch back on the SoCal scene! As if that wasn’t enough, Sang lined up again later to race with the “kids” in the Pro 1/2 field after already completing the morning race—a testament to his fitness and love of competition.

Another great weekend of teamwork and results, proudly representing the Davis Phinney Foundation, and all of our incredible sponsors.

At the SCNCA State Criterium Championships held during the Manhattan Beach Grand Prix on Sunday, Michael Araluce and Malcolm Hill lined up with one goal—to try to get Malcolm a state championship jersey.

On the notoriously fast course and with multiple categories racing together, which just added to the difficulty, Michael was all about teamwork…..After collecting a couple of early primes, he focused on protecting Malcolm, communicating throughout the race, and making sure he stayed as fresh as possible for the finish.

Malcolm navigated a tough, tactical race and came up just short of the championship finishing an impressive second. Even if the top step on the podium wasn’t in the cards, it was a great result for Malc, and honor to compete with some of the best bike racers at one of Southern California’s most historic races, while proudly representing the Davis Phinney Foundation and all of our incredible sponsors.

The teamwork and ex*****on were exactly what this team is all about, and no doubt we will be back next year.

Another week and another huge congratulations to Ludo on an outstanding ride at the USA Cycling National Time Trial Championships in Columbus, Wisconsin last weekend, earning 2nd place in his age group. 🥈⏱️

Racing against some of the best cyclists in the country, Ludo delivered another strong performance in such a difficult discipline, the TT. We’re proud to see him representing the Davis Phinney Foundation, and all of our sponsors on the national stage.
