in 1873, white supremacist militias attacked Black residents and elected officials at the courthouse in Colfax, Louisiana.

The violence followed a contested election during Reconstruction. As many as 150 Black men were killed in what became known as the Colfax Massacre, one of the deadliest acts of racial violence in U.S. history.

Despite the scale of the massacre, those responsible were never held accountable after the Supreme Court weakened federal protections in United States v. Cruikshank.

This history is a reminder of the ongoing struggle to protect democracy and civil rights.

🚨 EMERGENCY MOBILIZATION: STOP THE TEXTRON LAND DEAL 🚨

Slidell is preparing to sell 13+ acres of public land to Textron Systems, a major weapons manufacturer already operating locally.
This is not just a land deal.
This is a decision about whether our community becomes more tied to the machinery of war.

🔴 WHO IS TEXTRON?
Textron is a major U.S. defense contractor that produces military systems and equipment used in warfare.
They have:
Manufactured cluster munitions, widely condemned for civilian harm
Secured millions in federal defense contracts
Invested in next-generation weapons systems

🔴 WHY THIS MATTERS HERE
This Slidell site is already used for manufacturing and warehousing tied to ground combat vehicles.
If this land is sold:
Textron gains permanent control
Operations can expand
Our city becomes more directly tied to the war supply chain

👉 This is how global violence becomes local infrastructure.

🔴 FOLLOW THE MONEY
Public land → private war contractor
Public resources → war industry

⚠️ THIS IS A COMMUNITY DECISION
We are being asked to give up public land for:
Weapons production
Military infrastructure
Corporate profit
Without clear community input.

📢 TAKE ACTION NOW

📍 Slidell City Council Meeting
📅 April 14
🕡 6:30 PM
Show up. Speak out. Ask questions.

✊ We refuse to have our community tied to corporations that profit from violence and loss of life.

Slidell belongs to the people.
